I wish virtually all of these fellas who sit in the booth and do color commentary, would take Jeremy’s course, if Jeremy had such a course. While commentating, Jeremy basically says what the options are, and may give some contingencies, along with stating what the player may be feeling or thinking at the time.
Jeremy tends to stay away from bluntly saying what the player is going to do. Then, when the player picks what Jeremy might’ve said was a great option, Jeremy doesn’t gloat like he is Carnac The Magnificent!
I think Jeremy has so much self-esteem, that he understands he doesn’t need to prove himself to anybody. Therefore, he doesn't need to always prove that he guessed correctly, about what the player was going to do.
Since Jeremy doesn’t have such a course, this simple rule of thumb would be helpful;
Stop saying what the player is going to do!!!! Why? Because you don’t know…which is constantly being confirmed when they actually take the shot. This means your commentary won’t be a distraction to the person watching.
Jeremy is the Crème de la Crème of color analysts!
