Nobody, my personal opinion is he is full of jive, but I'm not going to elaborate or argue the point. It is just my opinion (except for the fact that he has turned nobody into a legend).

That's What I'm Known For.... My THINKING

I dont know, but if he can turn me into a ledgan then I am staying far away from him. :D

( if I'm wrong, I'm 'close'...... imo ) :)

Aside from the guys spelling, I have to totally agree.

Monk, who have you turned into a legend???
False advertisement ... I'd say so.

I believe lessons could benefit everyone, so instructors don't beat me up here. The fact is, no one becomes a champion by getting lessons. They may become so by following a champion and learning, but not by a "pool school" or "training course." Again, I believe pool instruction is a great thing. I myself have posted as to their value on this forum, but make legends they do not.

was browsing through the site, and it seems he has two separate pages with nearly the exact same stuff, just different presentation. Some of the design on them is a bit roffles. Anyway it set off my bullshit detector to read this:

Billiards Card Game!!

There's a new game in town. In Lancaster Ohio The Monk is going to introduce a brand new game. It features shots and strokes. You compete for cash prizes and learn the shots that win games. This new game will be played in pool halls all across America. The game features a deck of cards with selected shots. You play the cards that are dealt to you. The Monk will accept challanges from all players. Rick Rogers, the inventor of this new game will be on hand to answer questions.

I was playing poker pool literally about 10 years ago with buddies on bar tables. It takes some cheek to claim to be the inventor of it, it's like claiming to be the inventor of... I dunno, three ball or something. Or maybe it's not quite as big but you get the idea.

Anyway couldn't find any testimonials from anyone I'd heard of on the site. Dunno how he plays but I guess he markets himself right. I heard of him many times before I heard of bert kinister, and I think I've heard of bert before tom rossman.

I'm pretty sure he turned himself into a ledgan in his own mine.LOL

I remember playing poker pool in 1998... Not quite ten years ago, but I have no idea who invented it... Fun game to try with friends if you get tired of the usuals....

I like Kelly pool better.... Something magical about the ole pill bottle.... :)

oh yeah, Ive heard about the Monkey, err....um I mean Monk...

I personaly have never tried any of his methods, nor read or watched any of his material, obviously he is selling alot of stuff, so who know's? he might have lightning in a bottle, or he might just be full of........you know like ideas and stuff to help people who struggle with the game, Id have to digest some material before I could really comment... I can say I have visited the forum (as a guest) and I wasnt really impressed..

SPINDOKTOR (((((( )))))))

From what I have seen of his material, a lot of it is based on the mental aspects of the game. Which is an important part. His approach is a little out of the norm, but it does work for many.

For mental approach i'll stick with Max Eberle.
Lessons and a personal coach aren't the same thing. I've never had real lessons but I can see their benefit in getting your problem areas straightened out. One of these days I'm going to get some one pocket lessons. Not from the Monk though. Sorry I strayed off topic......

A ledgan in the making

I have read "Point the Way"
and "I came to win"

Both great books, mostly dealing with the mental side of the game.... I reccomend them to anyone....

i used to have them as eBooks.. I will see if I still have them...

However I still don't know who invented the game mentioned above....

My opinion of the MONK

Back in 1992 i saw Gradey do a pool exhibition at a pool hall in Washington PA. He promoted the book Point the Way. It was the first book i ever read regarding pool. I was highly impressed with the mental aspects of the game it taught me. I being a pool video sucker have bought all his videos and read his other books. Like anything else you get what you put into it. He has a lot of great practice routines to do. If you have a table and limited money to spend on lessons i would look into videos.

I do prefer Bert Kinister way above the MONK. Bert has a few more high level players under his name than the monk.

Just my opinion. I know we all have our doubts about the ways we can learn the game. I learned everything i know from a book or video so i think highly of them. Others may have learned from a great teacher in personal lessons. So be it. to each his own. to be great you need time, education and the desire to win.

Anywhere you can learn something you didnt know is worth it to me.

Cheers

Tap, tap, tap. I agree with Pat. Pretty much covers any advice. Find what works for you (or doesn't) and adjust accordingly. But always be open to learning. My opinion on The Monk... not every great pool player is a good teacher. And not every good teacher is a great player. I think his books have some good advice on developing your mental game. While he may not have any 'ledgans' he's trained from day 1, I bet there are quite a few people/pro's that have read his stuff and thought it was worth incorporating into some aspect of their mental conditioning.

I was into the mental side o the game back 12 years or so, and ran into The Monk at my local room. He was on his way somewhere and stopped in to hit balls. I was on my way out and noticed a giant motorhome with "MONK" on the plates, so I said hmmm....and went back in. We hit balls for a while, and he set up some stroke shots, and gaff shots, and he was a genuine nice guy to me anyway.

I actually read his new stuff (at the time) and got some good out of it. If you view it from a more beginners eye.....it works better.

You will not meet a nicer man than Tim Miller. The "Monk" is a very close friend of mine. Even his golf game is pretty darn good. He has the interest of his student first. He is trying to help lots of people.

It's our job to obtain information, decifer and make a decision with it. If the shoe fits....wear it......SPF=randyg

for my money why would you pay 500. when you can by every thing he's done for about a hundred. Some people can't learn on the job, You tell them toread and they eat the pages. It's like the prymaid scheme in my eyes I get 10 to sign up at 500. a head and you give me a cut 1000. Thats how I 've seen it work. He doesn't even us video taping go figure. I think he is friendly and has some knowledge. But training monk masters is a bit much. Coming to your bca, apa, m8 league soon Mark

Some of the Monk's shit reminds me of Stuart Smalley

"I'm good enough, I'm smart enough and doggone it, people like me"

"I deserve good things"

The op asked who had the monk turned into a legend? The answer, as far as I know, is no one. One of his supposed students was on AZ some time ago woofing, from Australia or New Zealand, IIRC, but, as usual with such barking, nothing came of it that I've heard of.
