I saw a lot of overshooting position by our players. I wonder if the practice tables were set up as fast as the TV table, and if our guys had as much access to each as the Europeans?

I thought the Europeans did better at the break than our guys, mainly making the one and controlling the cue ball a little better. Still, it was a close event. There were some rolls, mainly in the form of kick shots being pocketed.

Overall, the difference was the Europeans seemed to do better in front of the large audience than our guys. They made their share of mistakes but seemed to recover better.

I have nothing but respect for all of the players involved - that has to be the most gut wrenching pressure of all pool events.

No, the practice table was different in speed than the TV table. It was the same for both teams though, like Johnny said "if you're looking to find your game on the practice table there's a good chance you left it at home," and such is life. 'The Game is the Teacher' :wink:

I have to say I've been watching pool for years, in person, on video, and now on streams. I get bored often times watching them, and its more of a background noise. This is the first time I watched the MC, and I was hooked the whole time. Great production, great event, and great play by both teams.

Hi CJ,

We've had a somewhat heated thread regarding 'skid' while you were away. Do you think there is any type of shot properly or improperly hit that can cause or contribute to 'skid' or do you feel it is only an equipment condition such as chalk getting between the contact point?

Can a poorly struck shot that gets the CB bouncing into the OB or a certain spin to speed ratio shot cause a slight 'skid'?

Do you feel that they happen more or less on the newer cloth vs the older thicker slower cloth?

Rick, Mike missed the shot by more than half a diamond off, it is clearly lack of judgement on his part for switching cues at the last min. If the ball hit the jaws of pocket one can say no problem we all do it.

This year's Mosconi Cup table was very touchy (under the lights combined with an unusual atmosphere) and spinning the cue ball was a "guessing game". I told Dennis about it before his last singles match and he still missed two balls because of it (and knew instantly why).

He still won the match and then in his post match interview told how tough it was to spin balls. I kidded him later "Dennis, don't give away top secret information on TV" LoL

The funny part is a lot of players have a difficult time playing with "no spin," but in certain instances it's a must. You'll notice Efren will rarely use much side spin when playing under TV or high stakes situations. He knows the less calculations and adjustments you have to make the better, especially under pressure.
