The No Children policy at the US Open

I don`t know, but you also make me wonder if they are going to put into effect a "no-dogs allowed" policy. Likely not, since Barry hauls one all around.

it's probably better that way. if the kid disrupts a player's game somehow, you can't smack him in the head in public anymore.

Maybe they should have a kids section - like a big glass box they could be put in so they can be seen but not heard.

That would be nice in most restaurants as parents just let their kids run wild as the rest are trying to enjoy their meal.

Neveda Casinos don't allow children, Bar don't allow children, so what is the big deal the U.S. Open can do as they wish as they are a private event.

It appears to me that "the big deal" is that there had been previously no mention, either this year or in years past, that children were not allowed. It was only after the Open was underway and children already in attendance that the "ban" was put into effect. Really not a big deal now that the Open is over and I believe Barry in his own way, and quite publicly, appoligized to at least one of the offended parties.

You point is well made that RULES should not be put in place once an event has started.

No children as in what age?

Nobody 18 or under or 21? I think that is sad myself. How is pool ever going to evolve and take off if children aren't exposed? I started playing when I was about 15 years old seriously, and if I ever got the chance to go to the US open then, and was refused at the door, I probably would seriously develop tears. It is like telling kids they aren't allowed to watch a baseball game or see Lebron James play. What a joke. I understand that pool is a different atmosphere, but I think most kids that 'willingly' went to the US Open would not be disruptive and would even be a great way to market the US Open. Sorry for the long post, but this really disturbed me when I read the initial post.

That's a STATE law. Not a private one.

As an elementary school teacher I can tell you that it's not even thinkable to have a young child sit still for that length of time.

No Dogs & No Drunks I could understand.

Children are the future of our sport and banning them is pure stupidity!

If we want our sport to grow is it going to begin with the younger generation (remember the "Color of Money" boom that we had?). They should be encouraged and be a very welcome part of the sport.

A room owner is how I became addicted to cue sports at a young age. He didn't care if you had a dime if you were a kid. He would throw you a brush and let you clean a few tables (even if they had just been cleaned) and let you play all day.

Making parents responsible for their childrens behavior is the option.

By all means you do not discourage future generations that are the vitality of a sport that is trying to shake the "smoky bar room" image.

Did they implement that so they can blurt out those really bad adult jokes on the PA ?

This ain't true Joey! Just ask James Roberts who he drew Wednesday. There were at least 2 under 18's there.

There you go, being stingy with the food again!

Doug

Doug,

There you go hogging all the food again. I give them a bone each. That way they don't make all that noise fighting over one bone and interfere with my after dinner nap.

By the way, the lasagna was gooooood! Can hardly be called supper at six pm, think I'll eat another big wad in a few hours. Lost a few pounds lately but I think they are in sight if I look towards the kitchen . . .

Welcome back Smorg....you were missed.

Ok, from a woman with children, IMO. This is/was a professional event. (No, children or animals (at the event). Children being under 13. I feel "teens" should be mature enough not to be running around or making noise.

There is too much money riding to let one kid or loose dog change the outcome of being the US or World's best player.

I love my kids and wish they could go but that just is not the correct thing to do.

Now Doug we are going to have to talk about this muzzle the wife thing dude.

Ok - someone that knows - how old are Rodney Morris' kids that were not allowed to enter?

Kids also should not be invited to a wedding. If they are close family members, then they can go to the ceremony and be a flower girl or ring bearer. After that, off to the babysitter or grandma's house.

If a child acts up in a restaurant and a parent doesnt have the decency to remove their child until they settle down, the manager should force them to leave.

Promoters can do as they see fit at events. Rules, stipulations, etc. should be obvious to participants/spectaters, etc. on the front end...
