I wonder how many players CW has conned into an agreement actually believe the crap that he puts out. If he doesn't like it, he can take a hike. He intentionally schedules events to create problems that he'll have control over. I say let them all take a forfeit and get seeded according to the BCA points, not some contrived "international" ranking system that consists of 3 random U.S. events.
I guess I'm not sure what is meant by "sanctioning" or if the ABP even knows what they mean. It does seem odd that the ABP would announce they are sanctioning an event when the promoter never asked for it. I thought the whole idea of sanctioning is you submit a written request asking for it and only then is it considered. It seems the ABP is trying to generate some sort of self-important image by proactively announcing these sanctions when they were never even asked.
So I'm wondering if the ABP only meant to say they will include it as a rankings event, but once again misspoke. If that is the case, I'm not sure I see a problem. After all, Matchroom includes the Open as a rankings event for its Mosconi Cup and that hasn't seemed to jeopardized the WPA sanctioning. Same for the US Open 10 Ball actually.

It's a play on words. Barry should turn the tables on the ABP and sue them for using his tournament's name for their financial gain.
Please tell me it's not true. Am I starting to hear the marching footsteps of a boycott? This could get ugly! Exactly what the game of pool needs.

If the prize money is banked I can't see any reason for a boycott. And if they did boycott I'd bet this year Barry would hold the show without them.

I have to give Barry credit for keeping this thing going for 40 years... having to deal with or defuse these type of BS issues would make me say best of luck...
I am pretty sure if the US Open 9-ball stopped tomorrow... I would have to travel to Vegas for the US Open 8 ball, 10 ball, 9 ball, 1-pkt .. all in one tourney... I like having something here on the east cost (I know, I know, CSI is in Vegas and great for pool and everyone there walks on water, etc, etc..)

Wouldn't it be interesting to find out what percentage of the income for the US Open 9 Ball is spectator driven. What would the corporate sponsors do if the "best" did not attend? How large would the remaining field be? Would we see another relative unknown take home the cheese? Actually, I'd like to find out. Good by Charlie et al. Don't let the door hit you on the way out!
