Here are mine top reasons (in order):

1. Changing mind after getting down on shot.
2. Undecisive about the cue position before getting down on shot.
3. Thinking way too ahead in game and not focusing on pot or too much focus on cue ball position and neglecting the pot (often causes easy misses).
4. Tournament/Money game pressure.
5. Pre-shot routine/fundamentals not applied properly.
6. Lack of focus for whatever reasons.

What are your top 3 excuses?

I have missed more balls trying to shoot too hard to get shape /and or trying to cheat pocket too much. You would think I'd have learned not to in 60+ years. :embarrassed2: Johnnyt

Oh yeah forgot to mention this. Thanks Johnnyt.

Happens to me at times either trying too hard to get possition or playing too soft to control the cue to get shape.

For me it's probably mostly being misalligned or taking my eye off the object ball, usually because of position concerns.

finally: not being "right here and right now"

I don't think it's any one thing that causes us to miss, and except for a few people I think the top 3 are going to be the same.
1) forcing the ball for position
2) taking eyes off the ball (if OB is your last ball)
3) lack of focus (as not taking the time the shot deserves, giving up fundaments for said easy shot and the every popular "position is natural, all i have to do is.... F@#K")

Just a side note about me on this same topic is lately i've been having a problem "seeing the angle" and when it's not that then it's me not focusing enough. I've noticed that when I don't do what i'm supposed to do I end up missing the shot. Now if I just knew how to play i'd be deadly

Unintended english.....accuracy starts at the cue ball.

Actually, I never miss a ball...when those damn things disappear....
...I say " Good riddance to 'em."

If your Pre-Shot routine is solid, you resolve some of those other issues. Visualize the shot, commit to the shot, execute the shot. Dismiss anything else that floats into your mind.

yea but what are the reasons you miss a shot
There can a multitude of reasons one misses a shot. From letting garbage into your mind while trying to execute, trying to do too much with a shot, or just not understanding what the cue ball is going to do. Your routine should quite your mind, should enable you to focus on the shot. In practice you figure out mental and mechanical deficiencies, and learn where to cue ball travels. In competition, if you miss, you should forget the shot immediately, so not to cloud your next shot. In practice, you play the shot over til your comfortable with it.

Missed shot x3

Changing/thinking of another shot as you're getting down to shoot.

Jumping up on a shot / not staying down.

Taking eyes off shot / lack of concentration.

top three
6. Lack of focus for whatever reasons.
6. Lack of focus for whatever reasons.
6. Lack of focus for whatever reasons.

1. Improper stance (combined with bad alignement.)
2. Sleep deprivation. (impossible to stay focused)
3. Lack of confidence. Its really hard to make a ball if you start rethinking about what to do when already down on the shot. This is a very bad habit for me that im currently trying to fix.

Stance issues seem to come up when tired and when my muscles or back hurts. Shooting straight becomes pretty difficult when your feel like being stabbed in the back and falling asleep at the same time

A good PSR helps me with the aligning and stance thing, and thats what im working on at the moment

I mostly miss because I have rare condition known as not-very-good-itis.
Even though it's rare, it is very common

...uhhh...because it's contagious.
