The Reyes Cup

I am on vacation this week and my wife is traveling. I watched the whole event while practicing pool, cleaning and doing other stuff. Thank goodness for tablets!

I found the quality of play, tension and enthusiasm by the players and fans to be quite high. There was a lot of drama for the first day of a new event. Some big, big misses - and some big shots.

Mickey Krause was a standout for me. Some nerves on positioning, but he made his shots. His carom on the 9 in the team match was an outstanding shot that save Team Europe's bacon.

Every other player had some good moments. Big match-costing mistakes came from Biado, Huong, Kaci, and Shaw.

Based on the first day, I give a slight edge to Team Asia.

Efren, by the way, was quite visible all night, but he and Boyes were in the background after the team match.

I get the DAZN complaints. I just bought a new Roku to see if it helps with freezing and FF and RW.

My biggest complaint is the lack of user controls on the TV/Roku app. I don't get an option to start from the beginning on a match already in progress -at least not all the time. I have to rewind with my eyes half closed so as not to see the score!

I usually get that option on the Apple app. Still, FF and RW are awfully slow and DAZN freezes more than it should. It's gotten better, but I still have freezeouts.

The price, obviously, is ridiculous. Asking $240 for a full year ... they should off a limited subscription for pool fans of $100 to $150 a year. Seems pool fans are subsidizing their boxing rights.

DAZN also doesn't store past pool matches for more than a week. Ridiculous, but what can you do?

Even did a big first pump of sorts, both hands on his stick, pushing it to the ceiling, after his final shot. Yeah, he was excited. Good to see after his costly miss in the team match.

Of course, he never would have had to play a second game if Biado or one of his other teammates had come thru earlier.

plus that miss was so goddamn close that just a smidge softer it would've dropped (he also could've played it real slow and went for the long half-steep position as well). he also missed a ball in the singles match, at least according to the stats. otherwise pretty impressive for a first time big stage performance

for us in northern europe that must use viasat to watch MR events, it's $459 for a full year. matches are stored less than a week.

Do you get a lot of other programs from viasat?

Matchroom.live is streaming the Reyes Cup, but only in some countries, not including the US. My subscription is US$24/year.

I always hold my thumb up to cover the bottom of the screen so I can't see the score while rewinding ;)

Huong had a chance to win it at hill-hill, but he hung a makeable 7 to the top right pocket.
That was the only shot so far that i expected to fall, but didn't
Table is looking really good. Hopefully no ejector-seat shots like Alcaide's 7 last year (as comical as that was as a viewer...).

I thought Biado should have pocketed, the 3 I think it was, in game 6 of the team match. He hits that and it was clear sailing for a Team Asia 5-1 match win. Costly.

I watched just one match, and that was Shaw vs Yapp. For me, personally, the highlight was seeing Efren warmly greeting Yapp after his double hill victory. The best thing about the Reyes Cup is ..... Reyes and this event is a fitting tribute to the best all-around player of all time.

Credit to all those who made the event happen.

Do we have a start time for day 2 in USA Eastern? Thanks.
Seems to be 7:30 AM Eastern each day. I think that's also
4:30 AM Pacific
12:30 PM UK
1:30 PM Western Europe
7:30 PM Philippines

I guess that is for the Asian audience. The start time for the Mosconi Cup in the US has been around 11AM (Pacific) to make it 7PM in the UK.

they have old movies / series and some other sports but currently not anything i like. can you use matchroom.live and a VPN?

You don't get it on Sky Sports?

that's only for UK and maybe ireland

Either a VPN or move to Canada. ;)

Sometimes matchroom.live is a partial broadcast. For example, in the last snooker event, the commentators were audible but the studio discussion during the interval was not, and some replays the commentators discussed were not shown.
