The Sands Regency Tables In Reno

I will usually buy a few Accu-Stats videos in the winter and a lot of them are from the old 9-Ball tournaments they had in Reno at the Sands Regency back in the 1990s. I am just curious what table they are playing on? Its my understanding they are not Gold Crowns but rather a Gold Crown Copy by AMF or another company.

Anybody know what tables they played the Sands tournaments on? I thought I saw AMF on the side of a table once.

Contact Jay Helfert. He was an organizer for the Reno events back in those days. Know he ran the bar box tournament. Might have been involved in the big table as well. Played in a few. Just don't remember. Too old!

The first year I went was like 91 and the tables were made by a company called (I think) Rebco. They had Gold Crowns for quite a few years after that, and also had a few years where they used AMFs back when they were one of the sponsors. At the end they were using Diamonds.

That is correct. They were Rebco's, a smaller family owned business (Bob Bebb) from the Fresno Area. They made excellent tables that were used in many poolrooms up and down the West Coast.

I worked for Rebco ( Bob Bebb ) back then as a mechanic and player. Bob is still making tables today and actively working. The Rebco commercial tables were built to last and play great. Bob is a great guy.

I just ordered the Buddy Hall/Rudolpho Luat match from the Sands tournament and you could see AMF on the adjoining tables. The announcer, I believe it was Dave Maddox, said it was the AMF Advantage and they were great playing tables.

Gold Crown Look-alike for sure, however.

I'm pretty sure Brunswick was owned by AMF back then

The pool hall I grew up in had over 20 Rebco's. They were fantastic tables. I occasionally pop in there once in a while and 20 years later they continue to play great.

Here's a link to a 7 year old AZ thread regarding the AMF Grand Prix table with photos on page 2.

In the mid 60's, Severance Center Bowling Lanes in Cleveland Hts.Ohio had an entire room of these. As a teenager, I was thrilled to play on such a great table.

Shaw Lanes in E. Cleveland, wouldn't let me in 'til I was 18 since they served alcohol. But years later I would enjoy many an hour on Shaw Lane's Anniversary tables.

AMF has never owned Brunswick.

The other way around, then? I swear I read about one buying the other back in the late 80's or so.

.....Did some quick research- because I used to be in the golf business and I knew AMF owned the Hogan golf club co. - and that's where I seemed to remember that AMF and Brunswick had merged- but I must be going senile - they were never under the same umbrella from what I have found online.
Sorry to waste your time.

Nope, neither way. Brunswick has never sold their billiards division, nor have they owned another billiards line of tables other than their first merger with Baulk and then Collander.

Old Rebco

I bought a early 80's Rebco when I retired in 2014 and I am pleased with it and how it plays. Reminds me of the pool tables I grew up on in the 50's.

Some Aramith balls and 860 HR blue Simonis made it even better. My only complaint is the pockets will spit a ball out once in awhile if I send it in to fast. I have never had a Diamond table spit one out, but I have had them rattle do to my poor aiming!

I also think AMF and Brunswick tables play well.

P.S. I spoke with Bob about his tables prior to making my purchase of a used Rebco and he was very helpful and said he builds them to last! I believe him.

Brunswick owned Valley for a couple years, although I could understand why you wouldn't consider them pool tables:smile:

Your probably mixing it up with Brunswick Bowling being bought by Bowlmor/Qubica/AMF.

Brunswick Sells Bowling Division: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/why-brunswick-is-leaving-the-bowling-business/

I’m sure that the Brunswick Billiards Division will soon be sold off also.

Think about what you're saying, there's companies that already build knockoff tables today, yesterday, and will still be selling them tomorrow...BUT, not one of them tables say Brunswick on them. Someone buying the Brunswick line of tables is NOT worth a damn, unless they can BUY the Brunswick name to put on the name plate, and THAT will never happen, as it is, the billiards division of the Brunswick Corp is the ONLY product Brunswick has their name on. When AMF bought Brunswick bowling division, did they get the Brunswick name with it? No.....LOL

PS, furthermore, Brunswick pool tables are no longer being built out of country, would Brunswick have made that move if they planned on selling it?

Good to hear about Brunswick bringing table production back to the states.

You are correct Glen. The Brunswick Name was not included in the sell off of the bowling division. The Brunswick name is worth a lot when it comes to brand loyalty.

It’s still very sad to see the Bowling Division gone now. I lived in Michigan and the Brunswick Name meant Bowling.

Bowling ls like a cat that has died 8 times already, and only had 9 lives to start with...LOL

Actually Brunswick Balke Collender bought out some of their competitors in the billiard table manufacturing business.
