The State of AZb at the moment

First off I wanna say no offense to you, because I like reading your posts, but the problem is numerous threads a day like this are started. Someone starts an absolute pointless thread, someone else will say something, someone will get offended, then it will be ten pages of absolute nothing. There is no moderation done to prevent this, so 15-20 people just use this forum as a way to waste their day away arguing about absolutely nothing. That's what I think has been wrong with this place lately.

Exactly. 90% of the main forum is nonsense started by people who don't know how pool is or should be.

Just curious... but is it just more, or have the forums gotten kinda lame lately...
several months ago, I could log on at any given time, and there was good content all over the place, and now it seems I spend more time LOOKING for good content than reading it.

What's up with that?

The quality of the content seems to go up and down. I don't think it is anything new, just the ebs and flow of a community like this. One day I might look through 2 pages before I see something I really want to read, and another I might see 3-4 things I want to read on the first page. It's a great place overall, so just bare with the slow times from a content stand point, and do your part to keep it civil and respectful.

Cue Buddy, talk about a crazy June. Cold, no sun. Been raining for 2 weeks straight.

The road to my favorite boat launch is washed out. Yesterday, Canada Day, I stepped out to bar b cue a late night steak at 12 am and I could see my breath.

Not half bad today so going to run out to my favorite fishing hole that I call, The Swamp before it decides to snow.

A couple of months and I will be bringing the Ice Fishing equipment out again.

9 Ball, the good news is, or was, your Thread on Secondary Hobbies was one that no one started a fight in.

That was a Gooder.

Ok Dorman, you tell me what a Two Fer is and I will tell what a Hertz Donut and a PiCost is.

Yeah... its too bad they moved it though. I have never been one to spend any time in NPR, as God knows what you might run into over there lol

It is what it is. I've considered posting an un-antagonistic reply to one of Push&Pool's threads so you can guess how I feel about it:rolleyes:

... a lot of NEW members stepped in - and apparently found the CREATE A THREAD button...

Because new members are all trolls and have nothing to ad? How then to become one of the accepted class of "old" members?

Seems kind of elitist attitude, if you ask me. I'd imagine that's not what you meant but it's what you wrote.

Happens every year this time, don't get all nervous, hit the beach like the rest of us.

As we tell newcomers all the time, if they would use the "Search" function, it would stop a whole lot of repeat threads. Even the ones who know about it would prefer to start their own thread and get the same answers all over again. Just lazy.

that was not my intent, and i appreciate your info. i was passing out AZB's website & wearing their tshirts all over Mosconi, for new members.

when i joined, you could only post once every 5 days. and God forbid you tried to create a thread till you'd posted 25 times, without enough green. times have changed. i just meant that everyone has gotten "thread happy", and some aren't up-to-speed on existing threads. plus, it's summer and we're bored. (myself included, as exhibited herein) :)

I used to be the guy who always used to say, "use the search function". I came to the realization that that is not always the best approach. Why? Because as time passes and old members fall away and new members join, these folks have different stories and perspectives on these topics. Something to consider.

Sadly, the main problem here is that so many come here solely to stir up crap, which takes away from the experience. As a result, many very good regular posters have stopped coming here any longer.

Quite sad, actually.

That having been said, it is (finally) summer here in the US. AZB is an indoor activity. Its not surprising that the forum slows a bit during the summer.

Disagree.

People trying to stir up crap are only disruptive if you allow them to be. This place's main problem is the amount of backslapping that goes on, particularly toward more well known members in the pool world (players, instructors, etc.), and the constant labelling of people as trolls if they dare to offer a dissenting opinion.

That 1 post every 5 days really had you handcuffed since your averaging about 6 a day if you step it up a little you will be in Black Balled territory

Aiming system enthusiasts will pipe up and say, "See? If you'd not moved aiming threads/content to their own separate subforum, we'd all have something to talk about and learn! Now you have nothing on the Main forum."

:p

I've kind of slacked up on my talking about the great new products out there in the Main Forum. I must be slipping.

Maybe after the BBQing today, I can get back on track. :p There's gotta be some new product that needs a nudge. :joyful:

There is. "Play Great Pool" by Mark Wilson. Learn pool the old fashion way...work at it. Johnnyt

I agree that the "troll" label gets thrown around too frequently. And I think dissenting opinions make the forum better, when presented in a respectful manner.

Problem is that far too many here don't have enough respect for others, and demonstrate it in how they interact here.

As far as too much backslapping prominent members, I guess I'm guilty to a degree. I suppose I find it amazing that I can have exchanges with some of the best players in the game here, and want to show those folks that it is appreciated. Cuz they don't have to take the time to participate here. I'm glad that some if them do.

That is an excellent point, cue dude. I have seen and cringed when a brand new member with their first post asks a question that may have been posted to death a week ago and be told in an almost insulting manner that we've already discussed that and to go look it up yourself. I can just read the new members mind ... "WTF, why did I sign up for this BS?" Just my two cents but again, excellent thought cue dude.
