The Steinway Classic

sorry pal you know i love you but this field his miles stronger than turning stone... turning stone as around 16-20 good players..
This field the strongest field I've ever seen for a open pro/am event in a pool room Majority of the players on that list Could win the event

plus more are signing up.. Denis Grabe

good job manny.

D

Let's not get too carried away given the high end strength at the top of this list its highly unlikely the winner won't come from that wrecking crew

tuff way to make a living.lol very impressive field and both ko brothers to boot.

Matchroom don't need any enlightenment. They have their finger on the pulse but tis yeat y the problem was that many of the patients were 'flatliners',
So they had to work where they could detect a heartbeat and xo a smattering of bar table events were included., So what? They will make no difference to the composition of the Team which has already STARTED TO PICK ITSELF.
If the same criteria is used next year then perhaps Matchroom should consider starting their points list now to enable these obviously premium events to be included

I don't think they have their finger on the pulse at all. When you see tournaments with decent added money piggy-backing with an event like U.S. Open, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the field will be top notch.

All it really takes is to keep your eye on the calendar and make a phone call or two to inquire.

How do people that play there feel about the change? Does the snooker table get a lot of play? I really liked watching matches on the 10 footer.

I know you didn't ask, but the snooker table didn't replace the 10-footer. The 10-footer could easily be put back where it was before, but that is the best spot for spectators, and unfortunately, in a tournament it would have to be covered up, and that spot would be wasted. I think it was a smart move to put a 9-ft table in that high profile spot.

next year

Agreed, but in considering the matter of why the event carries no Mosconi points, the decision, which was made over six months ago, would have been made based on the quality of past fields, and I still find it incredible that this event is overlooked for Mosconi points.

I think it too late to be mosconi cup points event

but if i was a betting man i guess it will be next year:-) next year will be around 20 events in states for mosconi cup .. more big table events and less bar table the better

well i obviously know the players better than you..

its the strongest field ever for pool room no ranking points event Pro/Am

these events carry less pressure so that gives the mid table players a better chance to win... plus a lot of guys will be burnt out after us open.

yes you got the favs, but a lot of players can win the event...

D

Around 30 players can win it and another 20 capable of going deep..

usually these type of events u can pick 5-10 players out to win it... rest just looking for decent finish..

good job manny and staff :-)

It is a sick list. And i'm going to play and if history repeats itself like it usually does for me, I will draw the top players on this list. Lovely.

Does anyone know the cost of tickets at Steinway? Mitch

I believe it is going to be either $15 or $20 for the entire day. I asked Manny and he is not sure just yet, but it will be a fair price. Hope to see as many of you as possible there. Come say hello if you do come.

Yeah and the list still has to be updated. I just want to go on record and mention that I did not spell all these names the way they currently are. LOL. I will correct them i'm just being lazy.

I've noted before that it's a joke that this event doesn't carry Mosconi points. It always has one of the toughest fields of the year.

This field is nearly, if not as tough as that at Turning Stone, and, as this thread evidences, 2015 is no exception.

Can't wait for this one!

Turning Stone is truly a classic because of the years it has been going on , over 20 , this is Steinway's 4th year , and Phil Burford won the first , above average pool player but not top tier. Steinway is the beneficiary of the US OPEN being that it is on the east coast and easy travel from Virginia , a place to kill another bird while in the area. It isn't like players are flying in just for Steinway like they are the US Open.

If the US Open wasn't a tier 2 WPA event i doubt many international players would show up for it.
The joke is that the criteria for what constitutes a Mosconi Cup event isn't clear but can hinge on whether they need an event whatever its name to be available. I believe there was criticism of Skylar Woodward being intimidated into forgoing the playing of a money match to play in a Mosconi Cup points event on 7 foot tables.
There are a couple other 9 foot events that could be used as Mosconi Cup events but aren't.

Here is the latest flyer for The Steinway Classic.
