The true beauty of 1 pocket is ....

Interesting part of One Pocket is IMHO a game that make you do a lot of thinking between shots.

Weighing optionS of playing safe leave opponent no easy shot.

Or should I shoot to sink a ball in my pocket because the percentage are good to make ball.

Plus you have to do a lot of banking, kicking, and read combo shot.

All this could be building blocks for other games.

The game forces you to think. So many options. Every ball is "live". Balls can be pocketed in different ways and each player has their own strengths and weaknesses. Similar patterns occur, but again, each player makes their choice.

So many rotation players find the game slow and boring (look at previous threads). I think it's just the opposite. Rotation play is 65% break, 30% execution, and roughly 5% thought (for good players). Most patterns are obvious as soon as the balls stop rolling after the break. 8ball usually requires slightly more planning.

As for handicapping, this process is abused in all games. Forget it. If you think you can win, get your cue. If not, you're welcome to watch.

For quite awhile a real good player would stay on table #1(brutal tight pockets) all day at Felt and take on all comers playing one pocket,he played the game so good that he hid his true speed very well.
He never booked a loser and always played for low stakes.
He would play me 9-6 and I donated a few $20's his way now and then.

Only play good enough to win.

I’ve seen guys stall for years shearing their sheep over and over again.

It's not even that.

You can play so that you put your opponent in situations they'll give up whatever advantage they might have, not showing anything, and then just lean on them. To me, 1pocket is very much like a Sumo wrestling match. One guy quickly gets the leverage and then just keeps pressing.
