The game forces you to think. So many options. Every ball is "live". Balls can be pocketed in different ways and each player has their own strengths and weaknesses. Similar patterns occur, but again, each player makes their choice.
So many rotation players find the game slow and boring (look at previous threads). I think it's just the opposite. Rotation play is 65% break, 30% execution, and roughly 5% thought (for good players). Most patterns are obvious as soon as the balls stop rolling after the break. 8ball usually requires slightly more planning.
As for handicapping, this process is abused in all games. Forget it. If you think you can win, get your cue. If not, you're welcome to watch.
