The Whole Joint Got Hustled

I've seen cards sticking out of ceiling tiles 20 feet up, but I don't think I've ever met someone that can sling a card that far and accurately, I can see how it can be done- but I can't see how it can be done! lol I'd probably bite too....

Great story Smorg!

I am not buying any of those gigs ( stick swallowing and knocking the bowling pin) described by smoky but I will not bet a penny.

I don't bowl, so can someone post a link to a picture of a single bowling lane or alley or whatever it's called (you know, where you roll the ball) and let me verify the distance ?

how can it be?

Upon thinking further about it, any of you who has bowled or been in a bowling alley can attest to the distance from the foul line to the pins.....

I still can't see a card flicked that far with accuracy; can you?

When a card is flicked, it would travel so many feet before it would catch some air and flop up or over, it seems.....for a card to be flicked that far and remain parallel to the floor enough so that it went and wedged under the bowling pin, something must be done to the cards... like maybe weight down the corners? I don't know, I just can't see it....maybe I'll get a deck of cards and try it myself.......

On a tv show recently, a guy was throwing cards and making them stick into a watermelon. And the watermelon was not cut inhalf. I forget how far he could accurately throw a card, but he would be easily capable of throwing the distance in a bowling alley.
For me, if I claim to throw a card 6 feet , it would a lie.
There are some truely amazing people out there, and some good hustlers.
Had a guy playing pool last night , he was doing OK. Not shooting anything fancy. When he broke he ,made 1 ball, offered me to take 4 of mine off the table. He said winner gets a drink. So being gullable, I took off 4 stripe balls, but left the ones near the 8 intack. He damn near ran the table. Lucky for me, he made a mistake breaking out the 8 ball and the cue ball sunk it early.I wised up quick and refused a 2nd betting match.

"The alley or lane is 60 feet long from the foul line (at the player's end) to the center of the head (first) pin at the other end. The total length from the foul line to the end of the pin deck (the area under the pins) is 62 feet 10 and 3/16 inches long."

On a episode of mythbusters a guy named Ricky Jay who was said to throw them 200 feet. This guy was the nuts! Might of been him! Great
story!

This was a trick done by Chris "Jesus" Fergusen in a poker segment from the WPT a while back as well. The picture I use in my avatar is actually one of his avatar's from Full Tilt. He is the 2000 World Poker Champion.

As far as card throwing goes, he has cut bananas in half, done some damage to cucumbers, and made them stick into watermelons like a throwing star. He's actually kind of a card wizard. In addition to throwing cards, he can do a bunch of chip and card tricks. My favorite card trick of his is one called the "Pharoh's Shuffle". This is actually more coordination than slight of hand, but the trick works like this: He takes a new deck of cards, cuts them EXACTLY in half, riffle shuffles them EXACTLY one card over another. He repeats this for a total of 10 times.

The cards are now in the exact same order they came out of the box in!

Here's his website if you're interested.

One night at teh Miscue lounge in Florida a guy cam in an claimed he could throw a card across the room and have it stick in the wood. Some people bet him and when the card hit the wall it sounded like a bullet and stuck there quivering. It was a normal playing card.

I never believed it until I saw a street performer in Boulder Colorado throwing cards across the street in a mild wind and landing them nearly on top of each other on an awning.

As for the cue stick swallowing just look at what sword swallowers can do.

Thanks for the storie Smorg - it was as good as the first time you told it.

What I miss is the action at Kenny Vincents Southside Lounge! Many a night.......

There's no limit to the action in N.O........

From the foul line to the pins is 60 ft. Quite a throw. Did he throw them and then the cards slid through the oil? I could kind of see that happening.

I'm a league bowler too.

As a small note, I am a magician, and it is actually called the "Faro Shuffle", and it is 8 shuffles to get a deck to return to it's original order.

It is definitely a difficult thing to master, not many can execute it 90+% of the time.

With regards to the the card throwing, I can throw cards easily the length of a bowling lane, and probably hit some of the 10 pins while doing so.... however, even with regard to Ricky Jay(who literally wrote the book on this, called "Cards as Weapons") or Rick Smith Jr., getting them to slide under the head pin is truly extraordinary.

If I were to mention this to a group of hardcore card throwers, they probably wouldn't believe me without trying it themselves... even then I'm sure many would fail.

Even with the skill to throw a card, this just sounds practically impossible. From 10-15 feet its definitely doable, but from 60 i'm completely amazed!

Years ago there was a local player that would bet he could throw a card over the bar from the back parking lot to the front parking lot. I never saw him loose.

He taught me how but I could never throw a card. I could however throw a beer coaster across the bar, out the door, across the street and up on top of a two story building. (another good money maker)

Smorgie ...

great story! Did you know Cliff Brown? Although he used his 'real' name down in New Orleans, which he lived for 7 years, he is just Junior up here.

I learned a long time ago that drunken cowboys were the only ones to take up on their own proposition bets.

Great stories all!
