The WPBA Carolina Classic Thread

I would pick Jeanette over Helena since J.L's been playing so well. Buuttt I'm reminded of what happens when a "Hammer" meets a bug......splaaatt! :D
O'course if the bug is fast???hmmm

Well, I don't know if I'm any good at the prediction game, but I'll take a shot.
Here are my picks in the next set of matches:

A Fisher over GY Kim
K Fisher over Webb
Lee over Thornfeldt
Corr over Hofstatter

J Kelly over Biddle
Nelson over Paglia
Herndon over Chen
Ellerby over Shaw

And who's gonna win the whole thing? Well, before the event began, I put a little Vcash on Karen Corr. Could use the vmoney, too.

Melissa Herndon is taking no prisoners. She defeated Rachel Abblink and is moving forward on the charts. She plays Jennifer Chen next.

I'm still sticking with my filly in the race. Go, Melissa, and show 'em what you're made of! Looking forward to seeing you in the finals!

Ga Young has never beaten Allison before in tournament play if I am not mistaken. It would be nice to see her win. Wish her all the best.

Hmmm,OK I've decided...I'll go with Helena over J.L since that helps my vASS on the vBOOKIE! :D
Should probably go with Biddle over Kelly for the same reason, but I think she tires as they get deeper into the matches and I think Julie keeps a lucky leprechun and a four leaf clover in her pocket.
Thank goodness, both o'my li'l pixies are still in and kickin' butt!! :D

Angel loses on the Hill to Tiffany, Allison beats GYK 9-6 or so-Helena beats Jeannette.Karen wins big-Memory failing on others

Thanx Nostroke. :)

Depending on Kelly Fisher's game we could re-live the Fisher v Fisher match up! I'm for Fisher! LOL!

You don't match up with road players (skaters)? ;)

Jimmy,

LOL...I would match up w/o a doubt...the problem comes with the bank roll...mine just won't cut it! :( I would need a serious backer to cover the expenses and...he would have to be a crackhead to back me though....as my skating skills are far worse than my pool skills...and honestly, my pool skills are lacking at this time. :(

Geez Dea..see what you started??? LMAO!

Great tournament for Melissa Herndon!

The match between Melissa Herndon and Ga Young Kim went hill-hill in a race to 9, with Ga Young Kim the victor.

Sorry JAM :( ,

Looks like GA YOUNG KIM won.

I'm stickin with Monica and Helena! Guess I'll have ta root for K.Fisher and T.Nelson for the sake of my vBUCKS. Any way it turns out this is gonna be a great finish for Tiffany!

A reliable source has reported to me that Tiffany Nelson has eliminated Jeanette Lee. Nelson is just one win away from a TV round appearance.

Yeah, according to the WPBA site, the only two left on side A are Allison and Helena. Tiffany Nelson plays Monica Webb and Kelly Fisher plays Karen Corr. Those two winners will meet on TV.

According to Nostroke Webb outted Nelson. The finals are as follows:

17th-24th $1400
13th-16th $1700
9th-12th $2000
7th-8th $2400
5th-6th $3000
4th Place $4500
3rd Place $5500

These are very nice payouts from 3rd place to 24th (IMO)! :)

I like all four of the remaining players. However, I'd really enjoy seeing Helena Thornfeldt score a big one! She's a super nice lady!

Agreed, WPBA events appear to be about $50,000 added now, with the Nationals and US Open even better. And $4,500 or better if you make it to TV is pretty good money.

I think this is Helena's week. She's playing great and she's posted some really good victories this week. I'm pulling for her over some of my closest friends, but that's because I think its time for Helena to shine. Best of luck to her and all the great players that are still in it.

i don't like being the negative one in the bunch. even though the payouts seem to be getting higher which is great and hopfully this is a sign of things to come.........but after spending a week in a hotel, the travel costs, with food, and the 500 entry fee or so........there's not but so much left of 4500.... :(

with the hotel and plane ticket, thats what 800, then the 500 entry.

so 1300 and i'm guessing thats on the generous side that leaves 3200 minus food......so

3000 profit for 4th place

so IF IF IF IF, you stay in the top 4 throughout the year, a womon's pro pool player will make around 40,000 a year or so, before the expenses kick in. which is still more than the national average salary BUT is only going to be there for the very FEW that stay that constantly finish in the top.

Now this is a subject where I consider myself an authority, as I've attended over 40 WPBA events in my life, and in the case of most of them, I got there on the first day and remained to the end. The WPBA schedule is announced well in advance so plane tickets can be bought very early. I wonder if I have ever spent as much as $400 on a plane ticket, and the average is definitely less than $300. Next, the hotel cost at a WPBA event averages about $80 a night, but nearly all the ladies room with someone, so the hotel cost per player is only about $200 per player. The cost of food is irrelevant other than for those that wouldn't eat if they remained at home. You have to spend money to feed yourself, and I wouldn't say that I've found food to be expensive at the WPBA events I've attended. Adding in the entry fee, the cost of partiicpation in a WPBA event is about $1,000.

That means if you come 25/32, you roughly cover expenses. Half the field covering expenses, by the standards of this sport, is really pretty good, though you're right in noting that only the elite make any real money. No doubt, the cellar dwellers take a beating, but so does the PGA tour professional who plays a full season and makes just four cuts. I know because someone I know did exactly that, and claimed to have lost nearly $60,000 that year.

Still, I like the fact that there's an upbeat side of you on this matter. Other than the first tier sports of tennis and golf, in what sports can women make more? Even in the first-tier sports of basketball and soccer, it's tough pickings for women. WNBA players played for chump change and their league still folded. Women soccer players expereinced similarly disheartening economics. Which second tier sports for women are experiencing significant growth right now? Outside of tennis and golf, how many women really make a meaningful income from sports?

Women's pool has obviously not yet reached the promised land, but the WPBA continues to advance, and the women's pro pool product remains well-positioned to continue that advance.

> Monica*-Helena
Monica*-Karen /

These are my picks....say... v$100 at v20-1 will my payout make me vRich?
If it goes

Allison-Karen then I guess I'll be vPoorer and vBored! :(
