Almost certainly a Starkey. I checked out your auction and saw what you paid. I'd advise you to contact Chuck and see if your purchase price is in line with the cue's value. It's certainly a nice looking cue, but nowhere near worth twice your purchase price as the seller claimed. You certainly have grounds for a dispute with the seller if you want to go that way.

I swear I've seen that cue on here before. Really wish I could remember what it was listed as!

Chuck Starkey

I've heard good things about these cues.
Chuck is supposed to be a great guy to deal with also.

Nice cue

Typical Starkeys sell for right around $350 to start, but they are usually just simply sneaky conversions. He seems to sell his fancier cues for up to $500 to $600. This cue is priced ok at $400, but certainly not worth $800. IMO
Neat looking cue though. I like both cuemakers (Starkey and Diveney) and would flip a coin if I was to choose between the two for the same cue.

two things, look at the wood pinned cues that starkey is putting out there/ they look nothing like the joint pin on this cue. If anything I believe it to be a mariposa. check out this website and tell me what you think....

I realized that this is what this cue is. We have one here at the pool room with an identical pin. Again, if you look at starkey's wood pin it isn't even close to this and I know that chuck has been making cues for awhile but I don't believe that he has been using wood pins for that long. in fact the first starkey wood pinned cue I saw from him was only a year back or so.
this cue apparently sold at the valley forge super billiards expo about five years ago. compare this cue to the ones you see at the site. its a dead ringer. no one else like it.
a friend of mine pointed it out at the pool room i'm at right now (after i posted the thread)

Why, I do believe that is Mariposa's Chuck Starkey Tribute cue. Easy to see why so many people were confused.
:outtahere:

I'm not familiar with Starkey's cues but when I first saw this cue I immediately thought Mariposa Cue.
I think the guys name that used to make these was Kyle Vandenbosch or something like that. He used to own the Chicago Billiard Cafe on the Northside of Chicago.
Hope this helps.

Its really difficult to say... The Pin could be one of chucks also a mariposa. Have seen chucks pins that didn`t match with that, but others do...
The butterflys realy looks like mariposa. So i guess the best way is to send some pics to mariposa and ask them if this cue is one.

The cue is a Starkey cue for sure, thats Chucks wood pin, also I seen the cue recently posted within the last few months, you cant mistake that cues look . The way he spliced the woods to make the pattern just to cool thumbs up to Chuck for well exicuted craftsmanship, also the cues he make play quite well, I have owned one an was not disapointed..

i made that cue in 2007-8.
if you put the cue under ultraviolet light you might see my signature and date.
a cue like that today i would sell for $400.00.
thanks chuck starkey

I'm late to this thread, but my vote would have been definately for a Starkey!! Chuck makes fantastic cues, I have owned two and hopefully very soon will own another.

That cue is a beauty!!
