TALLAHASSEE (Bay News 9) -- Governor Charlie Crist, along with Max B. Osceola Jr., Chairman of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, complied with federal guidelines by signing a 25-year compact that has the potential to provide billions of dollars to Florida's schools Wednesday.

In exchange for significant revenue sharing of profits, the agreement gives the tribe the exclusive right to operate slot machines and card games in the seven existing facilities on tribal lands.

I like Cory's and Vivian's position right now. I can here the sound of footsteps from pool players around the country on their way to Florida. Johnnyt

PS. It will be good for Florida POOL too as well as poll lol.

Does the Seminole Indian Tribe of Florida sponser anyone other than Corey Deul and Vivian Villarreal. I will venture to guess there will be some large purse turnaments at the two HardRork Cafes in Florida now. Johnnyt

The sponser Troy Frank. They also sponser the vnea florida state championships and the west coast challenge. i think they also sposer the bahama shootout but i am not to sure about that

I saw this on the news this morning and think it's great and hope it happens.

I just wish the Dog and Horse Tracks could get in on it also.

I hope the Hard Rock in Tampa gets a pool tournament, that way I would not have to travel far to see some great players.:)

Ummmmmmmmmmmm...
Yay?

1. As long as the tribe is given exclusive rights, there is no incentive to offer a fair game. I thought a few years ago, that them being allowed to run 1/2 limit games with no pot limit ould be a massive improvement over those $10.00 total pot games.

Until I found out they were taking 10% rake. Good lord, it's like a vast, sucking hole in the middle of the table. And it's bacause they had little competition. Now, they have none. Ummmm, yay?

Also, if the tribe is allowed sole ownership of slots and cards in Fla., what is to stop them from dropping pool? After all, they'll be making a lot more "free" money, and I think pool is a liability for them..

Plus, as a lot of Floridians know, not as much of the tribe's profit share money makes it to the education system as you'd think.

Somehow, believe it or not, a good majority of it gets rerouted to other programs. Oh geez, who saw THAT coming? I was thinking about getting teacher certification in Florida, so have spent time on teacher's forums.

The billions that are supposed to be reserved for education are not getting there. Florida teachers are forced to buy their own office supplies, and are paid extremely low to boot.

So, all in all.. Pardon me if I don't find this to be good news at all, for the education system, or pool. I'm sure the press release made it sound really awesome, but I see it as politicians working back door deals for self enrichment, at the cost of the public.

Yeah, what you said. I had most of those same thoughts, but thought I was just being a skeptic. I just couldn't see how elimation of competition was good for anybody except the Seminoles.

My buddy called me yesterday and told me that the dealers at the Tampa seminole casino are saying that Blackjack is coming very soon. Is this true?

The Seminole Tribe of Florida LOVES the game of pool. It isn't a "liability", it's just something that they have a passion for. They won't be "dropping" it anytime soon. This will definitely give them more money to spend on it though, and that will only be good for pool players down here. (Their involvement in pool wasn't about making money in the first place.)

I didn't start this thread for what it would do for fn cards...I started it for what it might do for pool. Johnnyt

It will be GREAT for pool, Johnnyt... there is nothing better for pool than having a group that loves hosting tournaments, sponsoring pros AND amateurs, and who just loves to play the game with a LOT of extra $$ in their pockets!

If this was a thread about the Greyhound tracks, Greyhound breeders, Greyhound kennels:( and Greyhound owners any place in Florida outside of Miami I'd tell you how this bill screwed us. Johnnyt

Please remember that the Tribe is interested in supporting the pool community as a whole and hosting great events that bring the top players. They/we will not be dropping pool anytime soon! :)

Come check out the Hard Rock and a great pool tournament in a few weeks (Nov. 30-Dec. 2nd)! $25,000 added!! To play, contact Brenna Mello at 954-364-5201 ext. 4 or visit www.ticketmaster.com for spectator tickets.

Hope to see everybody in Hollywood! :)
