I have recently been doing some reflecting on pool , cuemakers, cues, and all the great people I've met through this site and others. I have very few regrets about having become involved in this hobby but one big regret that I do have is getting into it with Thomas Wayne.

In the past both here and on another site I spoke ill of Thomas and said things that were hurtful/derogatory and that I regret having said. I'll will attribute this to mob mentality, poor judgement, and the infamous keyboard warrior syndrome.

After taking the time to discuss Thomas with others and weed my way through the typical internet BS I have come to the conclusion that I was wrong about him. He is a pioneer in his craft and willingly helps those who seek his advice after trying to master different techniques on their own. I have never met Thomas or owned one of his creations but hope that this apology on my part may serve as a new beginning .

I feel that at times many on AZ engage in this type of behavior not just against Thomas but against many of the cuemakers both new and old. I feel that this type of behavior only hurts our beloved hobby and sport and does little to bring others into the hobby. Rather than seeing the negative we should accentuate the positive and do more to bring new life into this sport/hobby.

To Thomas I would like to offer my most sincere apology for my words and behavior . If we meet someday I would love to buy you dinner and see if we can turn our adversarial conversation into a cordial friendship.

All the best,

Matt S.

Without a doubt, TW is an amazing talent. That brilliance *seems* to come with an equal helping of darkness...I am judging that solely on the anger displayed in the forums, I've never talked to the man in person. I give you a lot of credit, Matt, your apology is an excellent example of extending compassion & care to someone that may need it the most.

At least you are man enough to admit that.

Thank you, Matt. Your action is virtually unprecedented on these forums and, frankly, pretty damned impressive. I wholeheartedly accept your apology.

Thinking back, I almost certainly responded in a manner that unnecessarily provoked or escalated the exchanges even further, and for that I sincerely apologize to you as well.

I'm with Kris B on this one.

Also, my buddy has a TW for sale, and it kills me I can't afford it, that thing is gorgeous.

Wow, very impressive and gentlemanly. Exactly what a real man is supposed to be. May we all strive for such humility. Kudos to you both.

Quality post. A lot of disrespect and ill thoughts come out about Thomas for one reason or another.

A ton is undeserved, for sure. Lot's of cuemakers thinking they're "better" or know better arguing for no reason sometimes.

That's just my take on it.

LOOK at his work. He's the upper echelon of cuemaking. Not very many can do what he can. Maybe a very, very small handful at best.

I would LOVE to have a Thomas Wayne cue one day.

I tried to contact him about having a cue made in the future, a good ways from now, but I don't think it came off the right way.

Maybe when I have cash in hand to spend it'll realize, but either way the man is a genius.

AMAZING cuemaker. Talent. Pure talent.

Great post.

Feels good to move on

Great thread, Matt. I've seen a lot of pitiful things said online about TW and never could understand
why people are so begrudging. Everything that he's typed on here that I have read, I thought it was
eloquently stated with wit and wisdom. Sure there is the occasional reply that leave a sour taste,
but the key word is "reply". He will defend himself whenever necessary, and stand up for what he
thinks is right - I respect that. It is refreshing to see some resolve around here. :ok:

I have no idea about the background of this thread, but it is certainly nice to see. Well done gentlemen.

Likely no symbolism but...

Couldn't help but notice this post was signed with full name instead of the usual "TW"

This is very good of you. Thomas is one of the best at what he does and doesn't mind telling others exactly that. So yes, he can be a tad abrasive at times.

But, if you listen to what he has to say, many times you can pick up some good tips from him. If you have a question, he will try to help you.

It is what it is. You either like him or not. Thomas doesn't really care either way.

Talk on here escalates too much in the negative. But if it wasn't for the typical sinister argument or hurtful words these forums do help people in the business side of pool to remain humble or at least honest. Sort of like reporters keep the government or in relation to pool athletes in check. It may not always work, but at least it's there. I've read some of the things that have been said about TW. All you really get is he's a brilliant cue maker but his talent and knowing that he knows it might get his head too big. Either way, when we really get to know someone it's not always what you hear. We all have a story. This is a nice thread, glad both parties acknowledged their mistakes. We all make them.
