Never seen this in a match and OB was pocketed with CB corner hooked.

Thorsten Hohmann at 2013 Japan Open

Unfortunately i think the impeded table rack made him miss the shot on the 3 ball, but KO dominated the match with his strong break

See it at about 2:10

Apologize if someone else showed this shot.

Very uncommon, tho I've seen this type shot many times in 50 years of play.

I know and have seen this shot many times, but never see an OB made in a match, and making the one ball off the rail , maybe by luck, but could he has planned it off the rail, or he hopped to just touch the one ball, who knows.

Looked to me, like he absolutely lined it up off the end rail. He pointed at the spot on the rail, then made the shot. For him and the other top pro's, I'd say it's a 15-20 percent shot to make it at best.Plus coming off the bottom rail into the one, it's a 2 way shot. If he goes a little long, the one goes to the side rail.
He is playing at the top of his game for the last 6 months now, and should of never been passed over for the Mosconi Cup. I honestly think the Euro's would have won again with him on the team. Without him, I just don't see it. Count-Down is on.

I have tried that shot a few times and even made it one time when ball was closer to the pocket. Failure rate 98%.

it's a trickshot that's popular among my friends. you hit the point with outer english. takes practice to perfect it. really useful, but only in rare situations like this one.

Tried this type of shot many times in the past 13 years Ive been playing only made it a few times never when it mattered. failure rate is def 98- 99 %. also whats up with leaving the rack on the table. wouldnt like that one bit.

Agree. About the built in rack, i really think it made CB to veer off its path because he hit the 3 ball soft, it would have been completely different out come IMO if he stayed at the table that match, and could be the tournament.

Rayjay,

Just keep practicing and U will learn the shot.

I worked on this shot quite a bit as a kid and now I can make many of these tricky shots.
However the one that Thorsten made was very difficult being off the rail as far as it was.

how you hit this shot depends greatly on how the pocket facings are cut....

I just finished watching the entire match, that boy can shoot! he broke and ran most of the racks to get to 11.....thorston sat in the chair most of the time...impressive shooting. would like to see him and earl have it out on a 10 footer!

many, many years ago seen Mizerak play this for a match winning shot. so long ago but remember it as being hill-hill too :) :D  ?? ... but it was match winning

playing 9ball, he shoots the eight in going three rails for position, he gets corner hooked. walks around the table scratching his head with a faint smile looking and evaluating the shot. with really not much hesitation, he shoots it off the facing and makes it! he then acts like it was just an ordinary, every day shot !! was pretty incredible considering the circumstances

Man those old days, i wish they had it video tapped!! These old legends used to play i guess, but imagine how long it would have taken one of them to learn new stuff like that back in the old days.
When you and I gonna have action! you got a ball on my break!! Later

My word Efren! I've seen the first one before but that second one (the kick of the side point)... yeah that one got my attention.
