Congratulations to Thorsten Hohmann on his victory in the finals of the Lucasi 14.1 tournament in J'ville.

Thorsten went home a few weeks to Germany for the first time in over 18 months, and that obviously refreshed his mind and charged his batteries. This is a big win, and a sure sign that Toastie is physically and mentally prepared for the World Championships.

Great job, Toastie!

David: Did you get to see this tournament? Who else was in it? Any good runs?

I wasn't able to get up there this weekend, I had some prior commitments.

As a 14.1player I've been kind of out of the mix this year. I have gone out of my way to concentrate on my instructional clinics (on the weekends) rather than compete in tournaments, so I was disappointed, but not surprised that I wasn't invited to play.

I might try to get up to New Jersey for the World Championships (that decision is up in the air at the moment) if they need commentary or any help, I will keep myself available for that.

I am in the process of taking my clinics on the road (full time) for the mental game,14.1, 9 ball, and others that I give. I have posted some videos of my mental game clinic on AZBTV, google, and Veoh - if anybody is interested in any of the clinics - let me know.

I heard there were lots of big runs. Mika ran 100-something in one match, then lost 125-3 to that 16yo kid, then in his next match apparently ran 150-and-out!

Dennis Orcullo ran a 141.

In the finals, Thorsten ran a 167. Not too shabby!

Veoh has been giving me problems all day - hopefully they will take care of the problem soon.

Note: I have canceled the Mental Game Mastery Clinic that was scheduled for this weekend (August 9-10) here in Orlando. The clinic will be rescheduled (tentatively) for the first weekend in September.

hi

ive got to mention this. i get alot of heat for having or wanting the balls polished to play.
well i brought my homemade ball cleaner to the jax tourney.
the first day we all played 14.1 with unpolished balls.no major runs.
the second day they polished all the balls with my cleaner that has part polish and part wax residue embedded in the carpet.
long story short that next round is when the 150,140,and several other big runs were made.
if i told the players about the wax and polish they would all freak out thinking im doing it for an advantage for myself.
instead everybody played great and to their real capabilities.
now maybe all the guys would start demanding polished balls but they wont .oh well.
the way the balls reacted was so night and day after cleaning it was funny.

I don't understand people giving you a hard time about that.

Having clean equipment is a big advantage for BOTH players - and it actually makes the balls spread better, and roll better.

Breaking up clusters when the balls are dingy is unpredictable. Breaking up clusters with a clean set of balls is much better - the balls even sound better when they contact each other.

I fail to see why anyone would give you a hard time about that - I understand the thing with the pink shirts, but being picky about clean equipment? Give me a break.

John thanks for telling me about the clean equipment difference at the DCC. I have a ball cleaner myself and I know the balls play sooooo much better clean. A damp cloth makes a tremendous difference on a dirty cloth too.

I know people might complain about being picky but the results speak for themselves.

If I could only get some consistent play time myself.

Thanks from me too, John for the tip. I've been wiping the tables down with a wet cloth since DCC. Others are even doing it at one of the Pool halls. You can notice the difference on your hands afterwards. No chalk.

I was using the spray turtle wax. Bobby Hunter said eventually that will build up on the ball and he pointed me to Color Back by turtle wax, which is a cleaner and a polish. It seems to be working fine.

I made my own ball polisher and it works fine. Lately, I've been bringing my own balls in to the pool hall. We were measuring some of the Pool hall's balls with caliper and scale and they had worn down a bit.
