Thoughts about Meucci cues

Ok. I'm going to get a new cue soon. I used to own a Meucci 97-21b. I plan on buying another one, but I saw a post on here where some people were bashing meucci. I was wondering if anyone could give me some real insight on what's good/bad about them compared to some other cues (playability wise). I had no problem with my last one, but I know very little about cues. and that was the only decent cue I have owned. for $600 I would like to know before i make a huge mistake if there's a better cue for the money. Thanks

Sincerely,

Richard

I own one Meucci. I did not buy it. The points are uneven. The shaft, red dot, has warped badly. The finish has bubbles. It is not a higher end Meucci; around 400. I have never been less impressed by a cue. As well, I have read horror stories about ording from the company. Bad customer service and worse shipping practices.

IMO you should take that 600 and find a custom cue maker you like. There are many who are members of this sight that could get you a great cue for that amount. Some will be more expensive than others. I have Chad Carter making me a plain jane right now that I am more than excited about. Take your time and consider all of your options.

My experince with Meuccis is limited, many swear by them. I am just relaying my personal experinces.

there are a lot more better cues worth less than a meucci. around 200-300dollars. though I myself liked the craftsmanship of a Meucci, it doesn't suit me and most of my colleagues. there's something that doesn't feel right about it. if it's for decoration, then it's the cue of your choice. for playability, look for a Players cue , a Duff cue, Mcdermott cue or Kaiser cue with intricate design . these cues got some hit that most players are looking for and you might notice it if you try these cues. take note that these are cheap production cues but plays just fine. you don't need an expensive cue that gives you the same result, just change the shaft for action preferences.

I myself have shot with Kaiser and the others listed, you wont be dissapointed with any of them for the money,i dont like Players but Kaiser,McD,and Dufferin are good cues and can be had for less then $200.I liked a few of the Kaisers i owned,3/8 12 pin with real inlays,2 shafts with layered tips for about $150,get a hold of ChrisOnline,he will get you what you are looking for and he is a pleasure to deal with.:)

For $600 you can get a sweet custom player that will be worth what you paid for it (or more) in a couple of years- your Meucci will only depreciate. If you want a production cue, go for a Schon for that money.

I've got a Meucci HOF-1 someone gave me as a gift- it has finish/warpage/discoloration problems- this isn't to say other cues are immune to this sort of thing, but you can do a lot better for your money.;)

If I were you I would throw up a post in the "For Sale" section saying you've got $600 to spend on a cue, and then watch the offers roll in.

Very good advice, there are alot of cues that will hit lights out and will hold or go up in value in the the for sale section, ask Bamacues,Spanky,or ChrisOnline, they are all great sellers and always have something good for sale. :)

I was thinking the same thing. You can get a nice custom cue for this price. Take a look at the For Sale section and you may get an idea of what fits in this price range. If you like Meucci's and the way they hit, then I don't think people can tell you what is best for you. However, I think most people will tell you not do to it. It seems that lately you hear many more horror stories about Meucci's-wheather it be quality or customer service. Like Gobrian77 stated, the Meucci will depreciate and a lot of custom will appreciate or at least keep their value-much, much more then any Meucci will.

I like the way the meucci cue plays . I have a 300 dollar pp1 with a black dot shaft that I love. no points, wrap - it just hits nice. Workmanship and customer service must be bad to get the flack they recieve here but I own 3 and all seem well made. They arrived straight and stayed that way.

i used to like meucci cues before all the dots...those old meucci cues could spin the ball like nothing else.

I have a 20+ year old Meucci Sneaky pete that still plays pretty good...

But the new ones are not the same thing, I lived in Memphis for several years, where meucci was made.....
the company has been sold more than once in the last 10 years....
the quality just is not the same.....

get a nice players cue or fancy sneaky pete from a custom cue maker, or get a schon if you want the best production cue....

Keith Josey make some awesome sneaky petes, with some really cool designs... and they play great....

also if you can find a Rick Howard for under $600 its a steal, the play almost identical to a Southwest... I have had several of them...

josh hilliard should be able to help you find a rick howard for $600 or less...

I hope this helps you

if you want to spend 600'ish on a production cue go with a Schon. They still play very well imo. Meucci is too inconsistent if you become or are already a good player. Also the way they're made now is just complete crap.

If you want to get a good custom cue then get a cue from carolina cues. That's what I would do.. oh wait I already did... and I'm having a second made too :D. They could make you something really nice for 600 and you will be quite pleased with the detail, workmanship, and hit of their cues.

Look what someone sold for 375

Schon. For $600, you'll get a cue that is every bit as "custom" as a higher priced cue with a signature, and you have the luxury of interchangeable shafts. You can order them over the internet, and your shaft will fit. Same with most of the aftermarket shafts.

Unless you can find a Meucci Original I would def spend your money else were. I got my Meucci Original and loved it so much so I obviously went out and bought another New Meucci. Had it for a day and sold it. Wasn't even close to the quality of my Meucci Original.

Check wiht Chuck Starkey .......
His cues are getting pretty hot right now ... 600 bucks will get you a NICE ONE OFF cue built to your specs.... and if things keep going like the have , it will be worht a handsome sum in the future...

I'll give a lil insight bout Meucci.......

With Meucci it is a hit-n-miss kind of deal...... You can get a really good one or a really shotty one!

A friend of mine has one of their Hi-Pro's.... He babied that cue....... was always careful with it when he shot and kept it in his case when he wasnt at the table.................Well one day he pulls it out of the case and we noticed a GIANT crack in the butt right below the handle going from the handle to the end of the butt bout 1/4" wide!!!! not only was it the finish but also the wood! He wanted to send it in to Meucci but I told him of a few horror stories of some peeps who send in there cues and dont see them for 2 years!!!!!!!!! Also I kow of a couple of peeps who's Butt of their meucci fell off!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FELL OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!

now as I said Meucci's are a hit-n-miss............Me myself would own a Meucci yes................But only a Meucci Original!

Thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate it. I'm really glad that I posted on here before I bought the cue. I think I'm gonna go post on the "for sale" section and see what I can get like you guys said.

Thanks again

Richard

$600 will get you a nice Schon. That's my advice.

Alternatively, save a few bucks and get a $300 Falcon.

Both will play great. I have concluded that customs for a similar price will not measure up...

Also, getting a new cue is like getting a new car. The best part is driving it off the lot (chalking it up for the first time).

Can never go wrong with a Joss.........and if ya gona blow 600 buckies...........get nice Josey or Low end Jensen
