Thoughts on KC Custom Cues.

I have been seeing these on ebay for reasonable prices and they are way cheaper than the cues on the official website. I was wondering if anybody has played with one and could give me some thoughts or opinions on it.

My opinion

I had one a few years back and it was a pretty nice cue for the money around the 100 dollar mark. A few others I have found to be decent for the money are the Fury, Lucasi, Players and the Omega's.

I bought one and it's a complete stink pickle, the shaft is horrible and all of the inlays are raised up. I cut the linen off, wrapped it with hockey tape (I later dubbed it Lil' Gretzky) and put a 314 on it and now it's my favorite break cue, go figure

I got one and its an ok bar table banger but terrible hit on the big tables , I use it for my breakstick.

One of the guys that plays in the league in my local pool room came in with 1 one night that he'd purchased off the eBay for under a hundred bucks. Decent looking cue - tip came off the first night. He asked me to replace it with a moori medium which I did and that was probably two months ago. Since then I've seen him several times and while it's not his main player he and some of the guys on his team do play with it occasionally. I hit a few balls with it, and quite frankly, I think it was worth what he paid for it. I didn't care much for the original ferrule or tip. This particular guy normally plays with A DP I think the KC hits better than the DP - Just one man's opinion, based on one example and hitting a few balls.

i got one of the plain dark stained kc cues for under $40, i think it's a pretty good deal, nothing bad with the contruction of the cue the only thing i noticed was a spot in the finish on the butt that was messed up but i still think its a lot of bang for the buck, it's not a bad looking cue, if it didn't have a wrap on it i would probably use it more, the shipping is $15 but i think if u buy an extra cue that it's free shipping, so i'd buy 2 or more and have him hold to ship them out (if he'd agree to it) until u found 2 dark stained or honey stained then have him ship them out, every once in awhile you'll find them ending for under $20 u could possible get 2 of them for under $50 that way

I had one about a little over year ago on ebay for 54 shipped. It came in a cardboard tube without any bubble wrap and clamped ends to make sure it didn't fall out during shipping, and the 'birds eye maple' didnt have any birds eyes. At first it had a weird hit, after about two to three hours of play, the WB tip came off. Glued it back on, after another hour of play, the ferrule with tip came off, there was no threading in the ferrule. The ferrule material wasn't exactly good for the shaft. Spent more time and money shipping it back to dealer because of the 30 Day guarantee. Got another one back, better birds eye figuring than before. The hit still felt weird, and the shaft was too shiny, it had a hard time going through a closed bridge. The linen wrap wasn't polished or shined. The ringwork inlays didnt look too good. Over the summer I started to use it as a break cue, the shaft and butt started to warp after 2-3 weeks, and got progressively worse. The ferrule would show burn marks because it was cheap plastic that couldn't handle the heat from the felt. The Stainless Steal joint came off about a month later.

Overall, it wasn't as good as I thought it would be, I've had a 'Players' cue last longer.

I've had two of these sticks in teh course of the past year or so, and the one I have now I use as my main shooting cue.
The first one was a purpleheart with ebony points in it, and i immediately had the shaft turned down to a 12mm shaft and the tip changed to a tip that wasn't a piece of granite and I loved it. The joint collar on the purpleheart butt started to come loose and I called Jim and he offered to replace the stick for free. I told him I had already had the shaft turned and such and he said send it to him anyways and he'd see what he could do.
He sent me a new cue for no cost as well as my old shaft that had been turned down. The new one is south american rosewood with gorgeous figuring in the wood with ebony points instead and I've had it since January and havn't had a single problem with it. It's shot amazingly well and has won me a number of tournaments. I've pretty much never used the new 13mm shaft that he sent with it though...it seems like a tree trunk after using the turned down 12mm shaft.

For the money I originally spent it has been a great bang for the buck with absolutely excellent customer service from jim shao, the owner of kc custom cues.

I would say feel free to get one, it would be great for the money, but the first thing you wan to do when you get it is to change out the tip to something a little more reasonable (the water buffalo that comes on most is like granite) and to sand the shaft down to get rid of the shitty varnish that is on them.

Hope that helps ya out !

Thanks for the replies everyone. You've been a lot a help. I will try to pick one up for cheap off ebay and more than likely use it as a breaking cue. I picked up a Lucasi LE56 a couple days ago off ebay and will probably get a 314 shaft and use that as my main cue. From the responses I've read though they are not worth the $499.99 that you would have to pay directly off the KC website. Thanks again for the replies.

The shafts are to fat and the ones I got had terrible grain. The tips are to hard and are virtually unplayable. I got the 3 for $100 ebony:rolleyes: into 3 the different woods. Even after changing the tip they still hit poorly. I think it was the brass pin into the neoprene insert that was the cause. The list prices stated are way out of line just to make people think they are getting a good deal. Sorry but that way of doing business bothers me.:p

When I first opened my retail store I contacted the gentleman who sells these cue on eBay. He told me that they were locally made, by a well known cue maker. I also ask the gentleman if the cues were made in the USA, which he said they were.

Everything this gentleman said was and is plain Bull:mad: , the cues are made in China. These cues are just fine for what they are, and as long as someone understands what they are.;)

Good luck and have a great night!!!!

I have one...

A couple of months ago I was breaking it down after a match. As I unscrewed it, I felt a "grinding" sensation. I looked down and both halves of the joint were still tight together.... I was unscrewing the joint from the but itself!!

I have had some crap cues before... but that takes the cake !!!!

I used to go to his house and hand pick them 4 years ago and sell them with 2 shafts that matched up nice with loint protectors. Once he went i bay he killed the retail market for them I havn't seen any nice ones in along time So I stopped buying them all together.

The other problem There not made in America good luck finding someone to work on them.
