Thoughts on this old timers sighting comment.

When I was trying to come up in pool, we had to start in a back room and work our way up to the front room where the action was.

Many $$$ later getting to where you belong in the front room felt good, knowing that you could play and hang with those around you.

The spectator chairs were fairly close to the table, so you had to frequently ask people to stand up or move.

One day a guy was shooting and one of the people on the sidelines was watching him shoot, very intently.
The shooter stopped and said to the guy "don't ever sight down my cue while I'm shooting a shot." So you can look at the ball, the table, etc. but don't sight directly at someone.
Made a lot of sense back then.

Does that hold any weight today? We know not to move or shark, but where do you stand on staring down the barrel so to speak?
 
i grew up where we had people surrounding you on all sides sitting on opposite tables and talking and making comments all the time.

you soon learned not to be bothered. and if you said something most just laughed at you.

what a joke to expect someone to go sit in a chair and not move when it was your turn. they stood off to the side a little. that's all.

Same. Barroom.....folks drinking, talking, smoking, jukebox going, etc...

Just use common courtesy when walking by a table. Stop moving if the player is shooting, excuse yourself after and move on.
 
If I got the best of it.... I'm very giving when making sure the benefit of doubt Most Always... goes to my opponent, keeps em around.

I always just focused in on the table. I was playing in a tourney at Shooter's Temecula and I had 6 foot 40 or so degree cut that I had to shoot with outside follow. Someone on the table next to me sent an object ball flying at the side of our table while I was down on the shot. It almost didn't register to me and I cinched the shot with decent shape.

I wish I could have that level of focus all the time, but it was funny to see the reactions of the people watching the match.
 
I try to avoid it, but doesn't mean everyone does. If someone is taking a shot directly at me, I usually move before if I can. Otherwise I'll usually side eye the table so it doesn't look like I'm staring down their shot.
