I mean, there are several pages now but I think I've been considerate throughout. If anything, I'm the only one who has been insulted. People should listen to you!

Those diagram threads piss me off. Every time I click on the thread, I get this annoying pop-up. I think there should be a separate forum for these annoying diagram threads with these pop-ups, so that those of us who do not like them don't have to be subjected to a surprise pop-up every time we click that thread.

AzBilliards Discussion Forum used to be a joy in my life. The climate on AzBilliards is much different than when I first joined.

My passion for pool used to be strong. I used to enjoy attending tournaments and sharing my non-pool-player thoughts on this forum.

Today, when I login to read this forum, some of the opinions, many of which are on this thread, are not representative of the pool world as I know it. I find myself logging in here less and less because of it.

Hi JAM, I am writing to see if you'd like some help with the pop-up you're getting from the diagram threads. When I go to one of those threads, I don't get any kind of pop-up, so as of yet, I'm not positive what type of pop-up you're getting but I have an idea. Is it an actual new window that pops up, or is it one of those yellow strips at the top of your browser? Do you see the actual diagram with the table and balls or is it just blank where the table would be?

If the pop-up is a yellow strip, and if you do not see the table, then most likely what is happening is that the pop-up is trying to get you to install the Adobe Shockwave software that lets you see the CueTable diagram. I'm not sure if there's a way to actually block that yellow strip, but rather the easiest thing might be to just go ahead and install Shockwave. Then you will see the diagrams in the thread instead of getting the annoying yellow strip with goofy ker-plunk sound.

Perhaps you already knew all this but prefer not to install Shockwave, but I think it's a pretty small program that will only have but a negligible effect on your system's resources.

To install it, IIRC, you can just click in the yellow strip and select "Install Adobe Shockwave". Or you can download it here:

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/

If the pop-up is something else entirely and if you'd like help getting rid of it, let me know.

Sorry to inject this post which is unrelated to the topic of this thread. (I am aware of the irony. :D) I do have some opinions on the topic but I'm going to try to keep them to myself. :)

I think JAM means she is not interested in any posts relating to the cuetable. The pop-up she is referring to is the weitable.

Her point is that, just as some people only like the shot analysis threads, some people here avoid them.

I believe she may get the same pop-up I get when I'm at work. It's an error message which may have to do with a firewall issue. It's annoying but not system-threatening or anything.

I avoid them also. I always get an "Install Activex" popup and I have to click on the X in the top right corner over & over & over to move past it or back. I can't even Exit the damn thread without clicking on the X repeatedly.

( my wife told me not to download or Install ANYTHING, since I screwed up my laptop by accepting some Spyware junk and crap from Nigeria )

Is this 'pool related' ? ( I sure hope so ) :)

Thanks, Steve. I agree, she doesn't care about the "how do you play this" threads. In an attempt to avoid getting into a debate about that subject, I forgot to acknowledge that. LOL. I guess my attempt at help was so that, when she does accidentally click on those threads, or if there is a cuetable in thread that's not primarily about game play and strategy, then in those cases the annoyance could be minimized. If the cuetable itself is the annoyance/pop-up she was referring to, I apologize for going off on a tangent for nothing. :)

Interesting. I probably can't solve that one, but if anyone wants to start a new thread about that one, maybe I can get lucky or perhaps someone else can solve it. Or I suppose your respective companies could just be blocking that content. Sorry again for sidetracking things here.

Whenever I encounter a thread that has the Cuetable in it, i cannot enter the thread until I click a box that says "Click to run an ActiveX control on this message". If there are eight Cuetables in the thread I have to click on eight pop-ups with this message before it lets me in. I think maybe this is what JAM is getting also. It's a real pain.
I just met Wei (Mr CUETABLE himself!) at the Jack memorial this weekend, and he had 2 suggestions: 1) I could stop using Internet explorer 7 as my browser (maybe switch to firefox) , or 2) change my settings for my internet options. Since I don't know enough to know which settings to play with, I think I won't do this.

For me, my work computer is a Mac Pro Intel and in order for Cuetable to run at all, I have to run it in "rosetta" mode. Then anything else I do is really slow, like trying to post in those threads. Unfortunately, if my browser is in 'rosetta' mode, then I can't run the Java virtual machine so I can't use some web apps that I need for work.

So I liked the old wei table better for web stuff, although I admit the new cuetable has some pretty smokin' features.

Yes, this what I'm getting also.
I wish that posters could place an (A) in their thread titles (or the Moderators were able to mark them later) when an Active X popup were encountered. It's very frustrating and you never know which threads include them. I just opened 'laminated shafts' and ran into the popup again.... dammit.

Download firefox if you aren't already using it for your browser. Click on tools, options, check the box for block pop-up windows.

All will be in harmony once again, great karma will fill the immediate area surrounding you, you will be on the 9 ball and it will be sitting immediately in front of the pocket.
 
I hate IT Threads

To change your active X controls so you won't get those annoying pop-ups:

Go To:

Control Panel
Internet Options
Security
Custom Level
Go down to ActiveX control options and select to run activeX without prompting. Here how it should look. Good luck!

Okay, I thought about this quite a bit and frankly, I've really gone out of my way to avoid having this turn into a fight. The truth is, there are quite a few people who don't like the way it is and there are quite a few people that do. I don't think it's terribly difficult to take steps to make everyone a little happier.

I think it's time we give a look to the way the forums are organized and consider creating a few and eliminating others. The goal would be to encourage users to use the Main Category Page more -

This is my proposal though feel free to make suggestions:


The Rail - (originally Main Forum) Non-specific Pool Talk
Shooting Gallery - Diagram shots for analysis (NEW)
Improve Your Game - Give/Receive advice on mechanics and mental aspects of pool (NEW)
Straight Pool
Snooker
Carom Billiards
NPR
vBookie Events


Tournament Announcements
Tournament Updates
(get rid of individual tournaments and let threads do the work)


Cues & Equipment
Wanted/For Sale
Cue Machinery
Cue Gallery
Ask The Cuemaker


Archived Forums (everything that's basically redundant or out of date). Get rid of the Pros section. The rooms are often rarely used and you can't have a room for everyone. Besides, if these pros want to contribute, they should just jump into the sections and contribute which is what many of the bigger contributors do already.

As to the subject at hand I don't much care for threads like this one. It seems pretty devisive and elitist to me to stir up this kind of crap and a great way to split up what seems to be a diverse and nice group of pool enthusiasts.

Looks good to me Jude. I'm in! :)

I especially like the section called Shooting Gallery. I love the threads with the diagrams that ask, "what would you do!" It's interesting to get other people's opinions.
