Thursday 2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship Thread

Anyone know, what's the deepest a woman has gone in the Open? If it's not her, I'll bet it will be her before this is over. She got trounced in her one loss, but all her other matches, it's been her doing the trouncing!

That's a good question. I think the ladies have only been allowed the last two Opens, if memory serves me right, so it shouldn't be too hard to find out. Maybe somebody on here will remember.

Not too many ladies this year, though. Monica is not at 9. Go, Monica! :)

shaun willkie plays matt krah in the loser's today. i bet a guy i know a nickle that wilkie wins win giving krah a 2.5 game spot. any thoughts?

Both of them are good friends. I'd be wondering what the saver was. ;)

Monica Webb wins. Yay!

The strong Kuwaiti player, Omar Al Shaheen, also wins.

Icon of Sin has graciously sent a few pictures of the venue.

This first one is a beautiful panoramic shot of the main tournament room. It's a little wide because it is a panoramic. I reduced it, but didn't want to reduce it too much, so that you all could see the facilities better. :)

Thank you, Icon of Sin.

what's a saver?

the guy wanted 4.5 games to start off which is ridiculous, so we settled at 2.5 so someone has to lose, no pushes.

they are both good players with lots of experience playing each other so hopefully they are both relaxed and play their best.

This next shot is the overflow tournament room, the one where the two extra tables are. There is no seating for spectators, except out in the hallway. A friend of Icon of Sin's played in there, and he said it was a little bit warm in the smaller space.

Some players who are good friends will make a saver when they have to play each other in a tournament, usually 5 ot 10 percent, to help their friend with expenses. It happens quite frequently, as a matter of fact.

Not sure if Shawn and Matt will do this, but most pool champions who travel the tournament trail on a regular basis most definitely do it.

I would say its a dead heat. The guy who got Krah obviously made a good bet. Sorry, but your nickle is probably in trouble. Just sayin....

Raj posted on Facebook that at moments like this he wished he could give his talent away. He wasnt happy or impressed in the slightest and there are too many things wrong to list.

Expand on that a wee bit. Does this mean he is unhappy or disgruntled?

you may be right but didn't i see you beat krah like 5-0 at a tournament once? and you aren't exactly a world beater.

I'm afraid Shane is walking over my Fabio Petroni, 3-zip at the time of this writing.

Earl is 2 to 1 against the Greek.
