tiger ultra x shafts?

I don't know if there is a difference between an X shaft and an ultra X but after playing with what its owner called a Tiger X shaft for about 30 hours I came to the conclusion that it was not really a low-deflection shaft. I found some confirmation of my opinion in this chart which has it rated as "medium deflection":

I did like the feel of the shaft and the feedback, but I couldn't easily adjust to its deflection after playing for years with a 314.

They are no authority, and do not list the details of said testing. It's b.s.

I've shot with a couple of Tiger Shafts and they all shoot very consitently. I really like their feel/feedback compared to other LD shafts.

From trying out the OB-1, 314, Z, Z2, i1, and i3, Shafts...My favorite has always been the tiger shaft. And I can tell you from experience that the chart on platinum billiards is wrong.

Sometimes I feel like they might be a little biased because they are based out of Florida. They are practically neighbor's with Predator.

I've been meaning to buy my own Tiger shaft for the longest time. The only reason I haven't is because I wanted to get it straight from Corey. I just haven't found the time to make the drive out to Burbank yet. Maybe next week...

I don't know anything about Platinum Billiards and don't hold them up as any authority, but just another opinion. Is there other published data out there from non-biased sources? What independent source can you cite? The Tiger on-line catalog that I downloaded from their web site DOES NOT describe the X shaft as a low-deflection shaft.

What I do know is that the shaft I used required me, especially when using inside english, to allow for considerably more deflection than my 314 shaft. If X shafts are consistent in terms of manufacturing deviation, then I feel they aren't as low in deflection as the particular 314 I have been using for 4 or 5 years. For me seeing is believing. YMMV
 
Is the Tiger Ultra X whippy? Damn I might go get one. I love my Pechauer and my friend says it's the most goddamn whippy cue he's ever shot with. :D
And before my pechauer I shot with a really old (probably made in 97 or 98) Meucci 97-21 with a pre-dot shaft, and liked the hit on it too.

Well, thanks alot, dabarbr, you probably just cost me about 175 bucks!

I've been seriously thinking about either getting a Tiger X or another Joss shaft.

After falling in love last year with the sniper tips, looks like I'll have to go all the way with a Tiger shaft.
Won't replace my Joss butt, though, because I love the linen-fiber joint. Feels just like the josswest ivory joint I owned way back when.

Huh?? So you have tried them yet or not?
 
Also, I was curious about the TIGER SHAFTS and I went ahead and PM'd mr. Corey Harper. the Tiger X shafts are the discontinued shafts. They weren't LD. They were PERFORMANCE SHAFTS.

The more updated Tiger X-Ultra offers LD.

I think there needs to be more distinction made when addressing these two Tiger Products to avoid confusoin.

No I haven't tried the new Ultra Tiger shaft yet. Right now I do not want to change anything. I'm very happy with what I've got. Older Tiger shaft with a sniper tip.

Have to disagree, they still aren't low deflection shafts, just performance shafts.

The tests the shafts are subjected to is biased to weight and stiffness of the shafts. The tiger shaft is designed differently than the pred/OB shafts and will never produce the results those do on that test platinum billiards runs. This isn't to say that its not a good shaft, but it plays differently than a low deflection shaft. I'd own one if I wasn't about to sell all my billiards equipment. :(

Hmmm, compared to OB and Pred sure they're probably no where close. But if the manufacturer says they are (and they are advertised as such) then they probably are. Probably not as dramatic as the OBs and the Predators of the world, but compared to a conventional one, they probably are.

btw I have not tried these shafts, I am just going by what is advertised and crowncitycorey's response when I asked about the Tiger Ultra shafts.
