Tight Pockets

Looking at how something is built does not create lineage, copying what you looked at does however. If Greg HAD copied anything from a GC, he did so miserably. Gandy top rails come off in one section, so does AMF commercial pool tables. Their frames are closer to that of a GC than Diamonds ever were, which in the beginning sucked being built out of plywood standing on edge. If Greg would have copied the GC rails, he'd have nevery started out using wood screw mounted nut plates silver dollar sized to bolt the rails down when Brunswick was using the floating capture nut system, which was the best system there was at the time to mount the rails. No, I totally dissagree that Greg did any coping of a GC what-so-ever because the two different tables share absolutely nothing in common other than they both have slate, cushions, sights, and pockets....just like all other pool tables do.

You are entitled to your opinion as well as I.

Several of the items you mentioned that they didn't use was because where Diamond got started, they did not use those parts. I still say they have more in common than you want to admit from their beginnings. I will also admit that they are light years apart today. We should just respect each other's opinions on the matter.

I'm speaking from a manufacturing back ground, as I've manufactured over 500 tables during my career of being a pool table mechanic.....what's your back ground again?

It must suck to be so right all the time. You are not worth the time. Go troll someone else. I now understand why so many people dislike you on this forum.

Lets get this thread back on track.

I am going to have Powder Blue Simonis 860 installed on the table this time. And when my mechanic is done my pockets will be 4 3/8 inch. Still pretty tight, but better than what they are right now.

Hopefully as balls slide down the rails they will find the pockets a little better this time.

When the cloth is bran new, the balls will slide in nicely. As the cloth gets broke in, you will notice how they hang up in the pocket if you rub the rails.
Have fun with the new cloth and aim for center pocket :)

I always get a kick out of these pocket size threads. There is so much more than the measurement across the point of the pockets that affects "toughness". I heard if you measure from way down by the anus you get the best results to boast about.

Hmmm...

Yep. Darn near a perfect copy. And of the same quality I'm sure:wink:

Why is that no matter how tight the pockets are...no matter how tough they play...my cue ball always seems to find a way in?:(:frown::groucho:

Right?!? A few weeks ago I was playing a guy on a table with 3 7/8" pockets and still managed, somehow, to scratch in the sides from seemingly impossible angles...angles you couldn't shoot a ball in from with 100 tries. It's amazing how that happens.

Absolutely understand!

I had a terrible case of that tonight. Just when I thought I was out- that cue ball was finding the pocket. And the same deal, half pocket blocked didn't matter, still scratch.

It's an amazing game. Unpredictable and unexplainable at times.
So I resigned to tv.Chalkysticks.com for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow is another day.
