Hi all, I was just wondering if there is anyone out there who would offer an opinion on which Scruggs hits/feels better... one with a flat-faced joint, a flat-faced wood-wood sleeved joint, or a piloted joint. Maybe there's no difference?

Seems the piloted joint (i.e. 5/16-14) is used the most? and, seems his newer cues are being made with radial and sleeved wood-wood flat-faced?

I've been looking at a lot of Scruggs' cues recently, and have just been curious. If you've played with any or all, I'd appreciate any feedback you have. Thanks!

Each of those have a unique feel to them. Its all a matter of preference as to what YOU like and prefer. For me, its a tight piloted stainless joint. :)

I have only hit with the scruggs piloted joint. It is my playing cue. I like it. I am liking the cue more the more I play with it. I don't know how much it matters. For me the joint alone doesn't seem to be the thing, OTOH, I tend to prefer cues with the pioloted joint. In terms of each cue though I can't say it is because of the joint tho. I would like it if somebody would send me a scruggs in each style so I could really compare them head to head. ;-) The cue is excellent, so naturally I like it more than some other cues. I haven't heard of many people who don't like the way their scruggs hits.

I think Tim will for the right price.

Have him make up 3 identical cues with the joint being the only difference.

Test them.

Post the results.

Keep the best one.

Try selling the other 2 on this forum after everyone read that you kept the best one, but do include in your description that it was the best playing cue that you ever had and you have played with a ton of them. :D

i have 4 scruggs, all with a flat faced ivory joint, two have radial pins and two have 3/8-10 and they play very similar. i prefer this joint over the others, but a hit is so subjective. you really have to just try each and see which one you prefer. my guess is you would like them all.

Here goes!

I like the flat faced and piloted joints both. I have owned many of Timi's cues. I play with a flat faced steel radial pin cue now because it is indestructable. And like all of Timi's and Mike's cues it stays on the center ball nice.Freaky how the cues all did just that! So you can cut the table up in pieces by using your angles.
If you like a harder hit go piloted steel.
If you like a softer hit go flat faced radial or 3/8-10.
For a little of both piloted ivory or flat faced steel!
Nothing plays like the radial pin for me. It moves the ball so well you can play elkmaster and still have the advantage of cue movement with less chance for miscue!
Enjoy your Scruggs which ever one you pick it will be made for a lifetime of enjoyment!
Nick :)
