This is from another post in the Billiard and Pool History section:

Just a sample of the great collection of old time photos from Shorpy.
There is a reference to "pool" or "billiards" in each one.

Lots of awnings and overhead wires.
Everyone wore a hat.

EW

When Julians was still around, I believe George also did a trick shot for a Kit Kat commericial. After that I took a 20 year hiatus from pool.

For those who are in NYC this week, stop by Steinway to check out the Ginky memorial.

Makes me sad to think about. One of the most talented people I've ever met. Was so mean and nasty, but always nice to me. Used to hang with him at Chelsea billiards. Once even racked for him for a 300+ ball run. He'd get sober for a few months at a time and get right back into stroke. He'd entertain ginky and I for hours with his stories. I remember this one time he cleaned up because he got a trick shot doing a 7Up commercial. We practiced that shot for a week straight. I couldn't wait to talk to him after the filming. But somewhere between the time the filming stopped and coming to Chelsea, he fell off the wagon and disappeared for a week.

RIP George and Ginky!!!

This one is cool too.

It shows Slosson's billiard room on the left...
Slosson was a champion player and was married to Tom Foley's daughter.
Tom Foley was the first IL state billiard champion and later founded the Chicago white sox.

The photo is also cool because it shows the "flatiron" building under construction, which still exists today.

Chicago architecture fans will recognize the designer of building: Daniel Burnham.

I'm diggin the convertable (right side) with the milk jug on the back...
And the old school 'Bobbie' walking down the sidewalk on the same side...

Good thing you said milkjug, don't see many hardtops there !

Great picture of a bussling downtown area, a lost era !
