I noticed this a while ago on a cue I play & break with. I don't have a monster break by ANY means but I can only assume that this happened because I break with it.


Would it be a bad idea to keep playing/breaking with this? It hasn't gotten any bigger in months but it's still bothering me because I'd rather not break it obviously.

Do these cracks usually spread fairly easily or does it take a good bit of effort to spread them?

I bought a BK2 to use for breaking now. I miss using this shaft but I'd rather not break it..

Depends on the material and configuration and the thickness of your tip.
Uncapped hard ferrules like melamine, Ivor-X and ivory can crack under normal use .
Even if you don't break. When you draw the ball hard, you are using that wall of the ferrule.
Ferrules that flex, don't crack as easily.

I don't recommend breaking with your playing shaft. You harden the tip too much imo. And the shaft gets dinged up near the joint if you break from the side rail.
 
That is as close to nothing as I have ever seen. I wouldn't hesitate from using it.

I have seen much worse last for years. What's the worst thing that could happen, it breaks? or gets worse? I would continue to use it.

I agree that this is insignificant. I would ignore it and blast away!

I good sign to replace the ferrule is when it falls off in two or more pieces. :rolleyes:
 
It adds character!

My current player has a Saber-T ferrule with
a crack in it! Except my crack is at the base,
not near the tip. I can't feel it on a shot, so
to me the crack is not there. Just a cosmetic
blemish. Maybe some day on a force follow or
power draw the thing will shatter to pieces and
I will look like a super hero. Until then, it will
not bother me a bit. I won't buy another one
of these ferrules.
 
If the ferrule breaks during one of these high energy techniques, there is a chance of breaking the tenon off when the ferrule goes. A ferrule is a reinforcement for the wood. You may be able to play for a long time with it, or maybe not. A ferrule and tip replacement is much cheaper than a broken tenon repair or possibly a new shaft.
