Tip-comparison

I don't understand why Tiger's website has the Snipers listed as Med-Hard which is harder than the Everest and Mueller's has them rated almost the same as the Tiger Soft. I know they use a different hardness rating but I'm talking about relative hardness not the absolute numbers. Everybody says they play soft too. Any opnions?

Snipers definitely play with a "soft" feeling hit. I have a Sniper on my main playing cue and have been experimenting with a "hammered" Elkmaster on my backup cue and the feel is very similar to me.

Funny they do have that "milkdud" hit. I always say...Snipers play like an ElkMaster thats layered & made like a Moori. Nuff said...;)

The Sniper "hits" softer & gives tons more spin than the soft Moori. As to if the tip is actually harder than the soft Moori...maybe Corey can help us out.

The Sniper is a very tough and dense Boar Hide. On our measurement scale (Type A Durometer) this tip is medium-hard (97) however, the nature of the hides we select is that it always retains these little hair fibers that stand up and hold more chalk than any Pig or Cow or Water Buffalo Hides. This gives the tip far more grip and spin, giving it the characteristic of a soft tip.

For those that do not know, the "Type A" durometer is the World-Wide standard for rating hardness and density (leather is no exception).

Could you please post your "hardness" ratings for all of the Tiger tips.
Thanks Corey

Hi Corey,

Based on the Type A durometer, do you happen to know the hardness rating for a Moori Medium and an Elkmaster. Just curious to see where they stand in comparison.

BTW, I am having Mike Webb install a Sniper on my almost complete cue. Hopefully I like it as much as everyone else.

Regards,
Koop

Hey Varney, Are all sniper tips the same (so to speek) or do they have differnt hardnesses? In other words do they sell s/m/h?

I have been using a LePro tip on 4 cues that i've had within 14 yrs of playing, when I bought my Vintage cue, I don't know what kind of tip it came with, but I absolutely hated it, and could never get used to it... does anyone know what type of tip comes with a Vintage cue?...I'd like to see what the difference of hardness in tips is...

Ok...you have the Moori soft as listed softer than a Sniper. Not quite so.
Take the same shaft...install a new S Moori...play some. Then cut it off & install a Sniper...you'll agree the Sniper hits/plays softer than the Moori.

I would be inclined to disagree- I have both and the Sniper plays lots harder than the moori-s

Lol! I don't happen to have any Moori's or ElkMasters.

Next time any of those tips float through here, I will snag the Durometer and record some results.

Didn't think you would but thought I'd ask. :)

MOORI MEDIUM TIPS ARE THE ONLY PLAYING TIP FOR ME! MY BREAK CUE "BUFFALO TIP" very hard great FOR BREAKING.

I was a BIG fan of Everest tips, and still am, but the sneaky I just bought came with a TIger-X shaft with a Sniper tip. I have to say, the Sniper really really impressed me. It holds the chalk just as nice as the Everest but I actually think I get a little more control with the Sniper than the Everwest.

Tried the Moori med and I was not impressed, especially after all the good things I had read and heard. The one thing about it was it didn't come close to hoding the chalk as well as the Everest/Sniper and I got several miscues because of that. The Sniper feels to me to be just a hair harder when it comes to the feeling of the hit but on the reverse side feels like it gives more control. I don't how to explain that or how Tiger does that, but I like it.

Are Elk Master the only blue colored tips. I recently bought a cue and it has a blue tip on it, however it's quite hard. A lot harder than what I would imagine an elk master would feel like. I normally shoot with a triangle and it isn't to far off that.

Blue Diamonds a tip that has been around for ages is still sold. Danny Harriman was using them a few years ago and would compress them before using. I don't think he soaked them, though. Not sure if he is still using them.

I was using an "Everest" through the US Open 2005, then I switched to a "Sniper". After using that for a year, I have recently gone back to the "Everest" as I feel it suits my game/needs better.
