Tip-down cases ruin the tip of your cue...

Something else my pool instructor told me... I have a hard Action case 1x1 that has individual tubes for my cue. The tip inserts down, as well as the pin from the butt. He said that a tip-down case will eventually wear out the tip faster than if it was a tip-up case. If I get my McDermott cue, I want a case that is pretty cheap, and protects my cue properly, tip and all. Any suggestions? :)

My cue case stores the shafts tip down, I don't believe him. The only problem I have with it is that if I don't clean my tips free of chalk before I put them in will turn my shafts blue quicker.

If your tip is a sponge, I suppose it would, although I have been putting my tips down for 45 years with no ill effects at all. Besides with tip up, if you don't clean off the tip (and not on the carpet either), you get blue chalk all over the underside of the lid, and I would rather it be in the bottom of the case, if at all.

If you don't want to look like a newbie or tinhorn, then get at least a 2 x 4 case, and don't worry, you will fill it faster than you think. Even a soft case looks better than those skinny hard cases that are a 1 x 1 or 1 x 2.

Almost everyone I know has a tip down case, if it was a huge problem the majority of cases woulnd't be tip down.

Yes, I have a 2x2 Porper case, and I wish I had purchased a 2x4 as I quickly realized spare shafts can be lifesavers (lost a ferrule right before a tourny)

Whitten, Justis, Instroke, Talisman, and lots of cheaper brands on Ebay.

That is utter nonsense.

I have an old 1 x 1 case. It works really well when I have to ship a cue out for a new shaft. A little more for shipping but worth it not to have to worry about damage. Did it last year when I got a new Predator shaft. Won't have to do it any more as I switched to a regular shaft when JoeyInCali made me a new cue. SWEET to have that feel back--and he is local and only puts out the best! There is an adjustment period though, at least for me.

Tap ,Tap ,Tap If only a little head head kid would listen to the fat guy Thats been playing for 12 years.;) I told ya so.

After reading your other post regarding mcderemot cues I have to laugh and wonder if thiis guy knows anything pertaining to the pool world. I bought a mcdermott as my falcon (great cue by the way) got stolen and I needed a cue fast for the VNEA championships in Vegas. I used it and fared well (stiff hit) but did not suit me. Still have it in fact. Moved on to a predator. My first cue was a Stroker that was cheap as borsch but got me the confidence to move on up to the falcon and so on and so on. I am so glad you posted on here for input. again the cues is right if it feels right and thee case thing is just hilarious. As others would confess and myself no problems with my tips... ever in one of these case or my justis custom case. My 2 cents. Sean

Another guy wishing he'd bought a porper 2X4 instead of 2X2....as far as a tip resting on the bottom of a case damaging it? Gee...better not strike the tip against a hard cue ball...that would really damage it! Sheesh!

JOEY CUE

Do you play at Danny K's? I would like to see and hit a cue Joey has built. I've seen some of his wood samples at DK's but not a finished cue.

I PM'd you. Give me a call and we can probably hook up. He has some gorgeous Rosewood aging.

I guess that most of us have screwed up tips on our cues. Where do all of these ideas come from? Does everyone bounce their cue cases on their way to their car?

I knew this would come back to bite me in the ass!

IF you really, and I mean really think this case crap is the truth- get one of the old box cases. Like the flip up ones. Don't know proper name. Someone has or will shout it out. GL with it.

I'd probably get a new instructor.

I'm interested in hearing what else this instructor has told you! (Btw, scooping the ball is not a legal jump shot. I'm just sayin'.)
