Hello,

I am fixing to retip my Predator and was wondering what tip would be a good one for snooker. I play on a 6x12, and would like to know what tips you guys use. My Predator is 11 3/4mm.

Best regards,

11 3/4 mm tip for snooker ! Jeeze you may as well use a putter.

The norm for snooker is pretty muxh an individual thing but between 9mm and 10mm is used by almost all although there are some that'll go lower to about 8.5mm especially if they too play uk pool.

Funny but if you do the maths as i did based on a 9.25mm snooker tip being ideal for snooker size balls then for us pool the ideal is 11mm but if you do it in reverse and say 13mm which seems to me to be the most common for us pool then for snooker it's 11mm. or was it 12 i forget now :D

Seriously stick with what your happy with but give a much smaller tip a good try out before you do.

Elkmaster and Blue Diamond tips have dominated snooker for many a year but theres a growing trend to go for slightly harder laminaterd tips in recent years.I've always been content with the softest tip there is the elkmaster but from a box of 50 you can throw 10 away the consistency just aint up to much.

Laminated ones such as the talisman are much more consistent, dont mushroom so easily and last longer but on the downside they are 10 times the price and the odd one may delaminate. Of those that use talisman tips the soft are prefered , they are only just a bit harder than an elk and it's hard to tell.

An Omin tip seems the best to me, identical to the talisman as they are made by the same folks apparently but work out cheaper. If you can get them that is,at around £3 each.

Great reply Wity. I've played with elkmaster for 15 years, but I'm gonna try a talisman whenever I need to replace the one I've got on there now. I'll let you know how it goes!

I use a Tiger soft and they work well, unfortunately the laminated tips mostly come in 14mm so if you are doing them by hand it's a pain. Talisman does a 10mm but I have seen a few delaminate.

Mike Wooldridge's tips have a good reputation. I have one on my Shark cue, and I bought a pack of five for future retipping.

i play with an elk master on my snooker cue and bar box cue. i like the accuracy, soft touch, english, and follow as compared to harder tips.

why do some prefer the talisman and/or tiger soft over an elk master?

do they play a better draw?

Dont buy a 9mm or 10 mm Talisman for snooker. Stick to the origanal larger ones and trim them down. Most of the delaminating problems i've heard come from the smaller tips, No idea if there's a difference in their make up or not or it's just coincidence i but that seems to be the general advice.

More spin, more draw, screw action whatever ? No they are not going to inmprove/alter your game one bit. what they will do because they are harder wearing, longer lasting, and less likely to mushroom they'll give you the same reaction / feedback for longer. If you can play a certain shot at a certain pace and screw back say 6 foot with a new elk on your cue chances are in 6 months time when the tip is on its last legs you wont get the same reaction, wheras with a Talisman you would because it's wore less, and kept it's shape. Then when the time comes to replace the Talisman do so with another and you'll find its as the first, you wont with a replacement Elk as quite often you'll think you have a different cue in your hands.

I'm cheap - Elkmaster - buy in bulk
Retipping costs $2.00
Quality is wildly inconsistent, so you will have to replace more frequently those that get flattened fast :D

Ronnie O'Sullivan uses Talisman and has convinced several other pros to switch.

Have Blue Diamond on one cue, don't see any difference compared to Elkmaster.

I now have a Talisman on my snooker cue. The first one delaminated after 6 months, but it kept it's shape really well, unlike the elkmasters.
For a 15 dollar tip, I thought Talisman would last longer, but may be it was just a bad one. I'm on to number two and so good so far.

As always, Wity, you are a font of useful information. Blue Diamond was always the go-to around here when I played regularly. I've found them to be very durable. My cue badly needs a new tip so I will be looking at new options now, thanks to you.
