Tip pops off

Hi all, I am putting a White Diamond tip on a shaft with a short ferrule and it keeps popping off. All surfaces are square and all I can think off is that the ferulle is compressing on the break and the tenon is popping off the tip. Anyone have the answer or had this similar problem?

A couple of questions to help figure out the problem...

Are you using a lathe to face the end of the ferrule?

What kind of glue are you using?

Yes, I'm using a lathe to face off the ferrule and I'm using Locktite super glue gel.
I'm thinking of taking off the ferrule and replacing it with a full size Aegis one.

Is there one epoxy you prefer to use? I have put quite a few of the White Diamond tips on and this is the first time I have had a problem. The super glue gel has always worked good before until I tried to do this one shaft.

Any 5-minute epoxy really.
Problem with super glues are sometimes the new ones you buy from the store are old or were stored wrong.

JMO of course but, "IF" the ferrule material is much softer than the tip and uncapped it'll pop it off with ease

Use G-Flex epoxy, made I think buy the same company that makes West System resins.
For a super glue, You need to use a toughened cyanoacrylic. The Gorilla Brand toughened super glue is really good.Available home depot etc
When you open the bottle it is recomended to use it before 3 months, as it does go off and performance of the glue deteriorates.

I have installed many white diamonds.
I face the ferrule off flat, then lightly score it with a utility knife in a sort of cross hatch pattern.
Then I do the same with the tip.
I use super glue, and have never had one come off.
The one on the shaft that came with my breaker is going on 3 years with no problem.

Thanks for the replys. What I'm going to do is replace the short uncapped ferrule with a full size Aegis capped ferrule and then put the tip on. I still think the ferrule is compressing and the the tenon is popping off the tip. Be back in awhile with the results. Have to go shoot a tournament now. Will hit it again tomorrow hopefully with better results.

I had the same problem with a samsara break tip on my bk2. I ended up having to take off the predator tip pad and put a regular fiber tip pad on and it works great.

I have had problems with white diamond tips also.
During a jump shot there is a lot of side pressure on the tip.
I started machining a shallow tennon in the back of the tip and a matching pocket in the ferrule. That along with epoxy fixed the problem.
No more pop offs.

you can also try cutting down the tip a little more so it is not so tall. the taller the tip, the more leverage it puts on the glue bond on a hard hit, esp on the edge.

i've been trying out a rubber toughened loctite super gel glue. seems to work well on break tips, it flexes so it is not as brittle as normal CA.

I use this glue also with great results. I was changing the phenolic tip on my jump cue that the above glue was used on and out of curiosity I tried to break it loose with a pair of pliers to see how strong of a bond it had and it would not budge.

cool, i just started using it and like you, so far so good! i've been scoring the back of tips and the ferrule face before using the rubber toughened CA and it's held great so far.

i've had trouble with white diamonds in the past as well, normal CA and epoxy didn't do the trick. though the ferrule could have had something to do with it as well (it was a mezz nylon fiber ferrule). only way i got it to stay on was using JB Weld. didn't have the rubber toughened CA back then.

Update

I took the old uncapped ferrule off and cut in a new tenon, threaded it, put on new capped ferrule, installed the tip, problem solved. I guess the good thing about this experience is now I know. The next time someone wants a hard tip with a short ferrule I'll know the routine! I want to thank everyone for their responses and tips. I will keep them in mind for future reference.
