tip question

What is the best was to make a tip that has already been installed harder?
I am currently using a ultra skin hard on my gilbert jump/break its just not hard enough.
Was wondering if there was anyway to do it short of putting a harder tip on ?

Put the cue together, hold the shaft in your non dominant hand, leaving the ferrule sticking out the top. Beat the living hell out of the top of the tip with a cue ball. Hope for the best. It will make it harder, but it won't be like a samsara. If you want a super hard leather tip on a break cue, samsara is the way to go.

When I played with Lepros I would get them down almost to the ferrule before I'd have to replace them. I jumped a full ball from less than 6 inches...

The height of a tip makes a huge difference.

You can also just break with the tip for a while or get on a nine footer and try to get the cue ball to do 9 rails for about 30 minutes. Reshape the tip and you should be good to go.

I cut them down to 4 layers and a dome.......... makes them feel a little harder....
I also press them before I put them on..... a medium presses down about .006 in

Because it is a layered tip I don't know if it may react with the glue. But you can take a cloth and wet the tip with ammonia. It hardens leather and is used by all kinds of leather workers to harden leather. Once it dries just burnish it scuff it. Of course unless it just falls apart, like I said I don't know what it will do to the glue they use to make the tip.
