Tip Selection...

Kamui blacks and Samsara. Kamui is more consistent through the life of the tip than Moori, plus they don't mushroom much if at all. Samsara is just rock solid. I've had one on my J/B for 2 years and haven't had to touch it.

onyx

i prefer the tiger onyx they have a great hit give fantastic action on cue ball wear very well and dont mushroom. I switched to them about 6 mos ago from kamui blacks and love these tips never going back. I use samsara on my break cue and g10 on my jump cue.

I go back and forth between Emeralds and Moori Mediums for my playing cue. Emeralds are a little softer, which I like for more english. I had a problem with the Kamui Black SS's hardeniing up prematurely - but I liked them when they're new.

Samsara for break/jump. You put one on your trusted break cue, hit the cue ball the same as always and you immediately notice "Wow, the cueball really jumped off my stick." At the same time, you can control the cue better than with a phenolic tip.

My 2 cents,

Gary

I have a few. Talisman is one. Lately, I have been quite impressed with the Black King soft. No mushroom, holds its shape, for a couple of months now.

Have heard good things re the Onyx. Have to try one.

Up until I tried the BK soft, it seems that I always go back to a Milk Dud.

Pool Dawg sent me a couple to try for a Christmas present. I just got a JD cue. One shaft has a BK on it and the other will have one of Dawgs Duds on it soon. His tips get good reviews from other members here.

I know I shill for his Duds and just from looking at them, I can tell they are very well made. I have this feeling I will be equally impressed with them.

I installed a couple of Talisman break tips in place of the Pred BK tips. So far, they are very well liked.

I got a few of Mad Mans break tips from Chris. I also have a feeling they are going to be well received. They look very well made.

I just use a beat up KF break cue thats warped badly in the butt and shaft. It has a one piece phenolic tip on it. It makes balls go in the pocket just as well as a Pred BK does.
I do have a couple of nice breakers but my breakers are usually community cues for the team mates. So they get abused. Thats why I offer up the warped KF cue.

I have never been overly fond of a phenolic tip.

Playing cue Kamui Medium, great control, no mushrooming, lasts forever, plays the same with 1-2 layers below radius area as with 5-6.
Break cue is Kmaui Hard, like it just fine, since I usually only play about once a week it takes a couple of breaks to hone in, than can park the cue ball pretty consistently. also use my playing cue to break at times and it works just fine.

Though I'm currently getting reacquainted with Triangle tips, I'm a big fan of the Porper Majestic. It feels good, holds chalk well, and plays very well. It's also cheaper than Moori tips.

i agree with lex

i build cues and hit a few balls with each of them before i put on the final finish and polish. to date i have constructed or converted 353 cues. i have tried i think, almost every tip on the market today. last month i found a few triangles in my tip drawer, and installed one on one of my new cues. after test driving the cue i decided to take the layered tip off my playing cue and put on a triangle, i forgot just how good they play. i am now installing triangles on all my new cues, unless another tip is requested. for the price, playability, holding chalk, and the fact you can get one replaced almost anywhere i think its a great tip.

Yep, that's pretty much my opinion. They play great and are dirt cheap. How can you beat that?

Ferrule?

I'm not trying to hijack the thread but would like to know which ferrule (material) each of you like with the tips (playing cue) I apologize in advance if this is a breach of some sort - it was not my intent
