titelist conversion

ive got a titelist butt and asked a cue maker to build a conversion. His response was a staggering figure. When I asked why his response was,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,its not the work involved,,,,,,,,,,,,,,youve got to consider the resale value. I told him no thanks. After all I can get a sneaky pete from him at a deacent price. Just how much more can a guy charge for a handle and posibly an ivory ring at the butt?

Come on, Im not getting a cue to resell and make big bucks on. Ive got 3 Szambotis Im happy with. Just thought Id get the butt made into a basic cue.

Let me know what exactly you want to have done to it, Joint, pin, shafts, Ect......

I just got one and it's going to be one hell of an overhaul, some chunks out of the veneers, alot of glue, time and ivory to cover it up, but looking forward to it.

contact joe c on this board. mine came out fantastic, ivory hoppe ring, ivory joint, ivory rings in the joint collars, leather wrap, 3/8-10 pin, and plays great. and the colors are bright!! he just finished one for badabing and is in the process of doing one for bama. the quality is high and the price is right. pm joe c and you won't go wrong.

i consider 900+ to be a bit too much for a basic conversion. otherwise ill put it on my fishing rod lathe and try it myself
 
It depends who you are asking. That is high for alot of people but if you have a top tier (in status not nessarily quality) cuemaker do the conversion the cue will be worth far more than if A lesser known cuemaker does it. If one of these guys can do one and sell it for $1500 and the base cue is only $2-400 It dosen't make cense for them to do yours for less just because you aren't selling it. They base their price off of what they would sell it for on spec minus the base cue cost(maybe). There are plenty of quality cuemakers who will do it for less than $900 but if you do end up selling it down the road it will likely sell for less. Chris.

I'd call Jim Buss, he has made some of the most beautiful titlist conversions i have ever seen. Really easy to talk to and seems like he's always available. You can't go wrong with a buss.

What is a basic conversion. Retapered? How many shafts? What grade of shafts? Ringwork? Wrap? What kind of Wrap? Ivory Ferrules? Moori tips?

If you just want it cut in half and a pin installed that is a basic conversion.

Tell us what you really wanted done and please be specific.

Titleist blanks

Does anyone have a good lead for purchasing some titlesit blanks???

Please PM me if you have any for sale. I am in the Chicago area.
 
ok i can be very specific, but will try ro keep it short

pin installed, 5-16/14

handle, so that points wind up in front of wrap

wrap, linen, mayby leather

btw, got shafts

black joint collar, white joint

white ring in butt rambo style (not need to be but would be nice)and black buttplate
 
However if I wanted to spend big bucks on the cue it would have

same pin, stainless joint, Szamboti rings, gunsights in points, leather wrap, inlayes in butt, ivory hoppe ring,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,in other words Id send it to Barry

You wanted to know how much a Qmaker would charge for this Q. It sounds like you want him to cut off the forearm section of the Titlist, make a new handle, join it to the forearm,add a new butt sleeve that matches the point wood, add a "white" Rambo ring to the butt, finish the butt off with a black butt cap & cut & fit the joint rings, turn the whole butt to it's final size, drill & tap the hole for the 5/16-14 screw, fit the screw into the Q, sand, finish sand & spay a clearcoat finish on. It sounds like you already have some shafts with the right insert & joint collar, so he'd have to have them to fit them to the new Q. I'd charge around $650-$700 for this Q new, made from scratch & around $500 to make this Q using your blank. I hope this answers your question. (HOWEVER since one of these Titlist blanks exploded while I was turning it, I wouldn't touch another one. Often the glue holding the points is poor & when they are cut in the lathe they fly apart.) Is this price higher or lower than the QUOTE you got...JER

Hi Arnot, always good to hear from you.What I tried to do was to give him a price he could compare his QUOTE with & you are exactly right...I would NOT touch this at ANY price. The customer blamed me for the Titlist that blew apart, even though I was only cutting a few thousands at a time. I replaced his blank with one that I had & that's the last one I'll work on...JER

Good point Jerry - Considering that a Titlist blank cost around $700.00 it does not make much sense for a cuemaker to risk losing that much money for the possible gain of only $150.00 minus his labor and materials.

I think these conversions are best left to the guys with fishing rod lathes.

WOW, if titlests cues are going for 700.00 then I have 4 for sale. I've had a dozen people want me to make a conversion out of the Titlest I have and I refuse. There are a lot of collecters of memoirabilia around and these old cues just keep getting scarecer so why destroy them when a new prong with the same veneers is not hard to build.
