As reported in the thread "AWESOME 1 Pocket Match Last night!!!!!", Corey Deuel got 9 games ahead of Scott Frost for $2,000 playing even one pocket.

I reiterate that Corey should be included amongst Scott, Larry Nevel, Tony Chohan, and Gabe Owen as one of the best one pocket players in the country.

In 1 Pocket Ghost's thread, no one seemed to agree with me that Corey plays the one pocket game just as well if not better than these players.

I concur. I also recall that a couple of years ago, Corey was lauded as the closest thing Efren had to a (1h) equal.

That said, I see how Corey can be a bit of an afterthought, given hi interest in other things...who knows how good he is playing at any given time?

BP9Ball,
It is obvious from your screenname that you aren't a fanatic one-holer.....if you were, then you would know the main reason people love the game - you can appear to be an expert even if you can't make 3 freaking balls.

You can always say that you meant to miss the shot; and in fact you never even have to shoot at a ball if you don't want (then just complain about your bad luck in selling out).

I have ALWAYS been impressed by the skill of the railbirds who frequent the one-pocket contests. They ALWAYS know the correct shot and strategy (as I always do at 14.1); and they ALWAYS know who the best players are. I, along with you, will be VERY interested to see how they explain this seemingly aberrant result.

P.S. - I agreed with you that Corey is just as strong (if not stronger) than those other guys; but WTF do I know....I like straight pool.

I agree and I think Shannon should be included on that list as well. JMO,

Willie my friend, you were a bit too presumptuous here, with this rush to judgement - ( at your work, I sure hope you don't make decisions with insufficient facts/info  )......BackPocket9Ball is a friend of mine, and the fact is, he knows One Pocket very, very, well, both as a player himself, and as a stakehorse.

Hey R, Don't include me in that, I never said Corey didn't belong in that group - I agree with him being included in that group.

1PG,
Just poking a little fun, please don't take it as personal criticism (your credentials are impeccable, and I was not demeaning BackPocket; just joking). Just part of the age old struggle for supremacy in the pool world - is 14.1 the best game; or is one-pocket the best game???

P.S. - I do get a charge out of listening to our local railbirds critique the one pocket games. They seem never at a loss for words.

P.P.S. - Does BackPocket9Ball get kicked out of the one pocket fanatics club if he keeps that screenname???

You beat me to it with Shannon Daulton. One bad man on the table & one of my all time favorites!
And let's not forget Cliff either.

Before the match started last night Scott did say that besides Efren and Cliff - Corey is the only other person that worries him playing even.

Thanks for the kind words, Ghost.

My screenname is just a reference to a popular game from my hometown. I actually much prefer the game of one pocket.

Hey R.! Good to see you posting. I'm not convinced about Corey being in the top echelon of 1P players-- certainly not based exclusively upon his recent great performance with Frost. From Bval's description, the Duell/Frost match sounded like a shoot 'em up, with both of them firing at any flyer on the table.

There is no better shot-maker on the planet than Corey; however, unless his one-hole game has come up in the last few years, he's self-admittedly not a knowledgeable 1P player. Both Frost and Corey love to shoot at anything that has its head stuck out, but it sounds like Corey was in the zone that night.

Doc

seems to me a lot of guys are jockeying up for the number two and maybe future number one position after Efren. Daulton, Scott, Corey, and Cliff. don't forget about Alex P, eventhough he is non-american :D.
all of these guys are great 1P players. you cannot simply select one and throw the rest without giving a second look over the others. I guess to only way to measure this players is how did they do against Efren and how they performed against each other. but the problem is, it is still a close call among these players. I just hope that there are going to be a lot of those 1P tourneys and see who lands on top in a consistent basis. that would really determine who has the clear edge over everybody. but for me personally, I would say Scott, basing from the performance he showed just recently. no excuses.

Corey should worry him. I sweated Corey and Frost playing four times and everytime I seen them get down Scott has never won with the bet ranging from 1k a set to 500 a game. Come to think of it I never seen scott beat Alex or Busta playing 1pocket either but Scott does play the game jam up. Right now I think Busta is the third best 1holer in the world and he may play better then Cliffo. The last two to three years his game is unreal.

I'll take Larry Nevel over Bustamante for the dark horse.

Yeah, Busty has been a consistent top 3 or 4 finisher of DCC 1PC events. he has been in the semis a number of times already.

Corey got 2nd at one pocket 2 or 3 years ago to efren at Derby City. If efren was not in the tournement corey might have won and everyone that was on the list was there!!
