No,they are two different people with different last names .The guy who imitates the pro players is marty.S (last name is a slovic name) and he has been around detroit area . prior to detroit he used to be in california.
Marty Herman is from Boston area.

Funny thing about Marty, though he is infamous for his behavior, I've heard from more than one person he is a pretty good instructor.

I too, can not believe Marty Herman deserves an apology from anyone.
He is an offensive person not above making racial and religous slurs. That my friends, is inexcusable !
 
I had a bad trade with him about a year ago. Absolute dirtbag personality from what he showed me. Sorry you have to deal with this Mike
 
Herman sold me a Omega DPK cue that was suppose to be straight but had a warped butt. This was via Ebay and it took place circa 2000. Was a big hassle to get the money back, but i did, but it still cost me shipping both ways and time.

It is just what I was told by a couple of people, I brought up that point and they said he doesn't behave like that when he is instructing. Go figure.

But either way, any of the extreme sedatives that turn you into a vegetable are fine by me.
Just as long as he shuts up.
It's either that or someone sew his mouth shut.

Thinking about him is making me laugh.
I have access to psychiatric facilities, and have seen more than my fare share of nutbags in my life.

Believe me when i say that this guy is way WAY out there.
Last time i saw him, i was sweating Joyner/Putnam on the feature table at DCC a few years ago, sitting with Cliff's girl. We (me and her)were talking about style's of game, and who played up table, and who tried to run out...when out of NOWHERE, this Marty Herman guy chimes in with his 2 cents about how Mika is the greatest one pocket player of all time. (mika was playing on the table near us, and Marty was applauding every straight in duck, move, and sell out that Mika did)

I had seen Marty's behavior up at Snookers, Quincy, and many other N.E. pool halls before, so i knew what i was dealing with.
So he's going off about Mika, and i'm doing the uh huh...uh huh...uh huh...routine till he quiets down and dismissed the attempt by him to engage me in legitimate conversation, and went back to talking with Cliff's girl about the match.

So the next thing out of this guys mouth was...after listening to us talk for a little bit. "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" So i fired back...."Does it look like i give two shits who you are?"
"I'M MARTY HERMAN! You ever hear of me?" Me and Cliff's girl started giggling at that, and i was like..."yeah i've heard of you...what do you want? A PARADE?"
Ignoring my comments.
He then went off about how Mika was still learning the game, but how he was going to dominate the world in one pocket, and how he was going to snap off the tournament cause he was the best player there.
To which i challenged him and said that although Mika might play good one pocket, he wasn't a world beater yet. He didn't compare to the serious one pocket players that were out there, and how Cliff would eat him for breakfast.

So i'm sitting there talking with her about how i think Cliff has TONS of knowledge about high power multiple rail banks from weird angles and he leans over again.
"Did you want to play me in some 1 pocket?" To which i started laughing and said.."Are you for real???? GET UP THERE BUDDY LETS GO! What...you think i'm afraid of you cause you think your the great Marty ****ing Herman?! You have NO CHANCE BUDDY, and if you think that having the star of David on your cue is in any way gonna get the gods to save your ass from me torturing you?! Think again. BET WHAT YOU WANT"

To which he grumbled some stuff under his breath, and went back to being the Mika fanclub, and shut up. He didn't say another word.

He almost acted like he was gonna say something again when Cliff's girl and myself were lauging, but he didn't.

This guy needs some serious medication.
Some 4 point restraint, and thorazine would be nice.

He's one of those people that has a picture of himself, autographed TO HIMSELF, by himself.

Don't know much about him but I have sold him some cues with no problems.
 
I like Marty...

I remember when Marty came to my room in Salem, MA in the 70's for tournaments...I had some great matches with him...I respect his game a lot...he was different, I'll grant you that...but hey so am I...and so are a lot of people in this forum...He could tick people off but I've never seen him do anything dishonest...

Marty mailed to me a copy of a 9-ball match between him and Nick Vlahos...and I'm forever grateful to Marty for that...Nicky beat him in a squeaker...which is to Marty's credit that he could go toe to toe with a great player...

I've known Marty a long time, so I hesitated to post here. People are always telling me about his eccentricities, but we have always gotten along fine. He played in one or two tournaments that I ran with no problems.

I have bought cues from him and got some good deals. Maybe I've just been lucky, I don't know. I do know him to be quite knowledgeable about pool, with a wealth of information to share. And yes he can play. Maybe not quite as good as he claims, but still plenty good in my book.

It just seems that Marty is one of those guys who can rub people the wrong way. He has always been respectful around me. And I have found him to be very intelligent. I have heard him complain rather harshly about a perceived bad call/decision at tournaments before, but I never took it too seriously.

I have been warned about Marty by several people over the years, but he has never done anything to me. I guess I missed something somewhere. I'm a little slow to judge people unless I have first hand knowledge.

Does anybody know his current screen name on E-Bay? I remember at one time he had some that were messed up, one was "Poolartist8", then if I recall he improved.

I can't say if he is a nice person or not.

I'm saying that i would never want to find out based on his previous behaviors.

I think in every instance but 1 that i saw him at various events or pool rooms around the northeast when i used to travel here and there, he was flipping out over something.

Not just you mild mannered complaining, but legitimate freaking out with curses and insults pouring from his mouth like it was his job.

So while i really don't know him that well, i am just presenting the side of him that i have seen the most.
For all i know, he might be an amazing friend to his long time comrades, but regardless of how he might be in those relationships, there is something wrong with him.

There is no doubt in my mind, having seen the dark side of mental illness my whole life, Marty DEFINITELY has a screw loose.
He might be able to screw it in tight so it doesn't rattle all the time, but it will manage to come loose like it has so many times before.
It's just a matter of time.

I met Marty 8 years ago and we exchanged a few nasty e-mails. All the threats amounted to nothing. In the end, I think he was pushing me to find out if I was weak. That is just my 2cents.

I bought an Andy Gilbert cue from him and I will always be in Marty's debt for pointing me in that direction. When I picked up the cue, Marty took me to his home, let me try a variety of other cues and critiqued my play. He told me there was "no art" in my game. It pissed me off, but he was right. I still think of those words when I see a pattern and run out. For my association with Marty, I feel I came out pretty well. He sold me a great cue and motivated me to work at my game. He is OK by me.
