TOI videos of players

I use mostly stun shots when I can. I'll even stun and roll through the object ball contact point unless I have to get some serious follow.

Watching the Pinoys taught me how to hit close to center, but use my stroke to get follow without aiming high on the cue ball. I noticed Shane's game changed in this direction after he spent some time in that part of the globe.

I like to think of using my speed whenever possible to slightly change angles on the object ball cut. Using mostly stun shots gives me more predictability when cutting balls and where the cue ball is headed. I can factor in CIT and deflection/swerve without too much thought...I think. :D

Best,
Mike

The Pinoys swipe the CB as you have observed and have been criticized for posting about it. You are spot on about swiping the rock to get English while aiming center CB. Some will never understand what you observed/proffered.

I do.:)

Be well Mike.

Living in LA I'm sure that you have spent time at Hard Times when the Pinoys are in town for a large tournament either there or some other location. Next time watch closely and you will see a very slight movement of the lower body, mainly in the hips, that creates the swipe as you call it. That is except for Santos who is using a low defection shaft.

It's a name we use to identify the players that invaded our country some years ago and spanked us on the pool table, the Filipinos. :grin-square:

Actually it's a really good question. Is Pinoy a general term or specific to a region or ethnic affiliation? I'd hate to offend some guy with the reference...:o

the TIP is controlled by the lower body and connected to the shoulder

Yes, it's always more precise to use the lower body to move the tip slightly. To play "championship speed" everything must be connected with the upper/lower body/tip/hand.

I show how to do this specifically in my 'TIP Banking Secrets' which shows how to create any banking angle using your TIP.....however, the TIP is controlled by the lower body and connected to the shoulder/arm/wrist/hand systematically.

If I pivot, it's a full body/hip movement. Whether it's back hand English or an aiming system, I like to move like a gun turret. :)

I guess there's somebody out there that might be offended by it, but it's like calling someone a Chicano, or a Bohemian, or even a Yankee. :) Some Bostonians might not like that!

I've sat behind many players and watched them cross over the cue ball to get spin. I've asked some of them why they do it and they reply that they thought everybody does it this way. :grin-square:

The only different answers I've gotten are non-answers from the top players. They usually avoid the question or give me a cryptic reply. Until CJ suggested that they were hiding their moves, I never picked up on what they were doing to the cue ball.

I would watch Dave Yeager run 9 ball racks like a machine (sometimes it cost me to watch). His cue ball would float around the table like a snail, but always end up perfect. I swore he was using outside spin because that's where he was cueing. But the cue ball would float without spin and barely move off of the rails. He would crossover the cue ball and put inside spin on many of his shots.

I tried it unsuccessfully with outside and became convinced he just had a superhuman stroking ability. Then CJ mentioned TOI and the last piece of the puzzle fit in. I wish I would have known about this a long time ago. I watched it, but never understood what was happening until I became familiar with it.

I know there are still a lot of things about this game that will stay under the radar, but it's really nice to get a question answered once in a while. Feed the fish!

Mike

Well hats off to CJ. for taking the time to reveal some of his secrets and selflessly give back to the game.
