Tommy is playing well again after going through a slump of mediocre performance. I asked him why he's playing better. He said he got contact lenses, and he can now see the balls clearly. It's made a huge difference in his play and his confidence.

It's great to see Tommy back in top form!

Please understand this is coming from a C player. I have watched Tommy play for more years than you can fathom. Watched Tommy on the stream a few days ago.The worst flaw he has is jack in the box, won't stay down. This I know has cost him games a even matches. The man has always had so much talent. I don't have the ability to carry his cue case without hitting both sides of the door facing. Hope the one of our certified instructor could give him a gentle e-mail. Skip

I got into pool just after Tommy found religion and quit gambling.

I used to see him in Orlando all the time, and at every FL Tour stop. ALWAYS smiling and upbeat, maybe the best sportsman I've ever met.

Just a really nice guy and easy to cheer for!

Tommy has always had a unique punch stroke and that little pop up he does. Not sure how he makes it work for him, but it seems to.

A lot of times good players pop up on shots they know they hit bad as soon as their tip hits the QB, which has nothing to do with missing the shot. I get a kick out of some anouncers and chatroom "A" players always say quickly,"he jumped up on that shot", when he really jumped after he KNEW the shot wasn't going. Johnnyt

Don't beat me up guys, just something that i have notice in watching him. An as a C player all my life, the one thing that I am told is too stay down. Heii I have even seen Efern jump up. I was just trying to help. Skip

TK is one of the good guys. Contacts or no contacts a fine person. It was great to see him at the SBE.

i had a chance to talk to him for a while this past week end at the seminole tour stop and i must say, he is truly a nice guy. i am verry happy for him that he played well this weekend and wish him continued success.

Tommy can be a character at time. About 20 year ago Tommy had a Gorilla costume he would put on between his matches and play the fool. He didn't do a bad impersonation of a Gorilla. Tommy is a good guy in every way.

He looked pretty strong a few weeks ago in that match with john schmidt, if that was him before contacts then I bet he's hitting 'em pretty sporty now.

Tommy called me a few months back to tell me the great news of his improved play, and he credited the contact lenses. Funny thing is, he also said, "Don't tell anybody!"

Tommy, I know you'll be reading this, so shame on you for not keeping the same "secret" you swore me to.

I used to chide Tommy about his habit of jumping up on shots. His reply was always the same: "I play better when I jump up." Kids.

Tommy is a great friend of mine. There is nothing anyone can say that would change our opinions of those that know him. I asked him if he had contacts and he said.. not enough to keep him from getting a speeding ticket..lol About playing better or not playing good, you have to realize that this man has more miles on his car going backward than most going forward. Running tournaments , traveling and competing..please ...Tommy your an animal !!!!

Roger, I hope I didn't reveal a secret. When he told me about the lenses he didn't admonish me to keep it under my hat.;)

As far as his "jumping up", he doesn't do it during the shot. If he jumps up, it's after the CB hit.

Tommy actually has a good follow-through in his stroke. It's just that he takes a very short back swing. Then there's a short pause before he pushes through the shot. It's similar to Keith McCready's in a way. Hopkins is typically accused of having a "punch stroke". But actually it's a very short back swing, then a decent follow-through.

I figured that out years ago and I tell people the same thing, all the time. And most still don't get it!

Yeah, I remember arriving at the same conclusion and then seeing it on here... for some reason this is one of those misconceptions that never dies. Tommy has fooled the cue ball into thinking he hits it good when apparently he jumps up and hits it bad :)

I met tommy in the early 90's but haven't spoken with him since 1996...

I also met him after he had found religeon and found it hard to believe he could have been
anything other than the helpful, joke cracking character I got to know. Amazing Pool player too!

His ball spinning/juggling routine on the table was awesome to watch too!

(Anybody know of any videos of him doing that?

Believe it, I met him before that, through Gary Pinkowski, who was a road player himself at the time!

Come on ... that guy's nothing but a troublemaker.

The contacts are a mixed blessing for Tommy. Cigarette smoke irritates Tommy's eyes and causes them to dry out terribly. This has been worsened with the contacts, but TK takes the good with the bad - its just how he is.

Jumping up -

Nothing new - when Tommy sank the match winning 9 ball to win the 1992 US Open, he jumped up about 10- feet in the air before the ball dropped. I can only guess he does this to look taller.
