This is another of my favorite cues, the Tonkin Night Spirit Box Cue. Pete Tonkin is an amazing cuemaker who gained wide recognition
in his early years as a phenomenal metal worker, who then started making stunning cues with unbelievable precision.
We (kinda) jointly developed the design of the Night Spirit in early 2010, and I received the cue at the 2010 ICCS show in Sarasota.
Beyond my wildest expectations! Pete provided regular photo updates as the design evolved and the cue was built (about 6 months),
but there is nothing like actually holding the cue in your hand and shooting a rack of balls.
In early 2012, Pete had the cue in his shop to do something with the cue, and he asked if he could take the cue to the Super Billiards Expo
in March, 2012 and enter the cue in the annual ACA cue contest for People’s Choice Cue of the Year.
It won Cue of the Year for 2012....a wonderful recognition for Pate Tonkin and a pleasant treat for me, as I was there.
By the way, check out the very small, consistent ebony trim surrounding the sharply pointed silver zig-zags inlaid into the ivory boxes in the forearm
and buttsleeve. Whew!
