For my 200th blog post on billiards movies and TV shows, I tried to celebrate the sport by honoring the Top 10 Pool Players Playing Pool in movies and TV episodes.

http://www.billiardsmovies.com/top-10-pool-players-playing-pool-in-movies/

Note 1: This list intentionally excludes those players who appeared on reality shows (e.g., The Hustlers; Sharks), game shows (e.g., Big Break; Ballbreakers), documentaries (e.g., Ronnie O’Sullivan – American Hustle), commercials, or pretty much any show that is not fictional and intended purely for entertainment.

Note 2: In case it’s not obvious, this list is no way attempts to rank the actual movies; this is purely about the player’s portrayal.

Agree or disagree? Who's missing?

The #10 listing, wow what a work of fiction " is to compete in the New Century Women’s 9- Ball Championship for the multi-million dollar prize". That is about as un-realistic as you can get. I mean they could have at least tried to base the movie in our existing universe.

Steve Mizerak did a nice job in "The Color of Money", playing a match against Fast Eddie and constantly saying "I didn't deserve that." When Mizerak repeats this at the end of his match after losing, Fast Eddie says to him "Yeah, you did." Absolutely unforgettable.

Jason, I was not aware of your website (http://www.billiardsmovies.com) until tonight, despite the fact that it looks like it is at least 7 years old. What a huge amount of time and effort you must have put in to developing all those lists! Good going.

Here's a list of Jason's lists (in addition to the one that is the subject of this thread):

billiards movies
billiards short films
billiards web series
billiards TV episodes
films and TV episodes with billiards scenes
TV commercials featuring billiards
print ads featuring billiards

I tracked down Gordon Ogden in Baton Rouge about seven or eight years ago and we had a couple of very nice phone conversations where he told me all about the making of The Player. It did have a release in four or five movie theaters owned by his family. I forget which one had the "Premier" showing that Fats attended. He told me that he thought he still had a copy of the movie and he would look for it. I offered to buy it from him for a healthy price. Unfortunately he never could find that copy and told me it may have been thrown away. He said the director may have the only other surviving copy. That is if he still had it. He said that all the other copies had deteriorated with age.

Gordon died about five years ago. Sad to say, there may not exist a copy of this movie. I'd just like to find one of the posters. I did see one in Fat's home in Dowell, IL. What became of it I have no idea. At least we have "The Bank Shot and Other Great Robberies" to remember Fats by, maybe my favorite billiard book along with McGoorty. He also made an LP record which I've never seen or heard. I do have a copy of Fat's 45 minute monologue that he gave on his induction into the Billiards HOF in 1984. It was recorded by Jerry Breisath. It's vintage Fats with all the bragging about his exploits. Funny as Hell! He kept jabbering away and talking to UJ Pucket who was in attendance. Fats would tell a story and look at UJ and say, "Ain't that right UJ?" And UJ would just laugh and say, "Yeah Fats, that's right."
