Top 25 BEST POOL SHOTS of All Time

The quoted bolded phrase is all I meant to imply. ... It was definitely a ridiculously-low-percentage fluke shot (even if he really was trying to do it, which seems highly unlikely).
If this was a ring 9-ball game with shoot-to-hit, playing the 9 is the obvious shot. Or maybe the 5 somewhere, but the 9 will be high on your list of possibilities. Extremely low percentage, of course, but in ring 9-ball there is no safety play. On the other hand, I doubt Jimmy had ever played ring 9-ball.

Thanks Bob. I had no idea is was a ring game.

It wasn't. I was just commenting that the shot is one that would actually be planned/attempted under other circumstances. I imagine in Jimmy's situation he was just going for large separation for a safety.

Oops. Understood. Sorry, it has been a long day, starting with lots of hard work to finish the video. I guess I'm getting as bad as the "younger generation" that doesn't seem to like to read stuff carefully.

I agree with your assessment of Jimmy's shot. Also, using the speed he did allowed balls to also find pockets with a little luck (as evidenced by his result).

What we need is a different vocal intonation of "I got lucky" for each of Efren's shots--I mean he has to have said it more than once on record.
Dave makes videos and talks about how he doesn't tire of something, but is it for him or as he complains a lot about, for the views and clicks?

Its been said for a long time that all you hear from Efren is "I got lucky." and that it kind of makes fun of how he doesn't speak a lot of English around others.
My opinion was to put I got lucky once and that was OK, not need for every shot. But hey Dave's videos, do what he wants.

Thank you for the permission to do what I want to do.

I get the message. You didn't like me repeating Efren's "I Got Lucky" audio clip throughout the video. However, based on most comments I have gotten on YouTube and Facebook, this didn't seem to bother others. I think most people (like me) enjoyed it.

And me!

Jimmy's shot is probably from the Mosconi Cup. If not, it's from one of the the World Championships when they were contested in Cardiff, Wales.

Over the past couple dozen years I've called & made a good number of the shots in this video and that pissed oft a lot of players. As for Efren's Z shot, I've made it many times (8 & 9 ball) in the past 10-ish years. My team-mates see it now as being sort-of easy and they're making it.
High spin shots are something to see and I use it a lot... and miss-cue a few. It's amazing to see a cue-ball travel at 'a' speed then pickup speed off each rail. BIG THANKS to Mike Massey.

Those JUMP-DRAW with SPIN for POSITION are possibly the best shots in this video.
There's a NEED, the ATTEMPT and near perfect GOT IT outcome. AMAZING!!!+!

Thank you. I'm glad you liked it, even with the repeating "I Got Lucky." ;)

Great video. Think if you were including run outs as 1 shot on the list, Shaw"s one runout in 9 or 10 ball(can't remember at the moment) where he had to jump 2 shots in a row to bad luck after amazing shots needs to be on there. Just as I consider Mellings 8 ball run out to be the best 8 ball runout of all time, Shaw's was the best 9or 10 ball one.

Great video.

Thanks.

If you or anybody else can find a video link to this runout, please post it. Thanks!

I found it

I was there for this one, I think Jayson would have gladly taken three to one odds on jumping the one in.. The jump in on the two was far more difficult, but still not mind-blowing. The only thing that makes this runout special is that it came in the final rack of a major tournament final. Otherwise, putting this rack in your top 1,000 would be ridiculous. Since it came at a big moment, though, it's worthy of attention.

Personally, I think it's miles below Albin Ouschan's almost inconceivable kick in of the two ball that spelt the end of the 2015 Mosconi Cup. At double hill, Skyler Woodward appeared about to pull the US within 10-8 when the unthinkable happened.

Skyler Woodward vs Albin Ouschan | 2015 Mosconi Cup - Bing video

The time stamp of pertinence is 46:16, and Albin's shot literally "stole the match" and ended the Mosconi. As we know, Skyler would get revenge with a double hill jump in against Albin at a critical juncture of the 2018 Mosconi Cup.

The kick isn't as "sexy" as some of the Top 25 shots or Jayson's jumps, but it was most certainly momentous. I've added it to the resource page also.

Perfectly stated. Shaw's shots jumped off the page a little more, but Albin's incredible kick took the air out of the entire American crowd at the Mosconi. Guess you had to be there.

When Efren says "I got lucky," always doing so with a smile that lights up the room, it is half humility and half joy, which for me are two of the characteristics that pool fans admire the most about him.
Efren's a *humble* genius -- and that's a category of genius rarely seen in world history. Albert Einstein is another, and -- amazing to realize -- he and Efren both exhibit the identical sweet and shy, kind of smile in public situations. As if they're almost embarrassed by the level of genius they were born with.

Your point is well taken. The "moment" is a big factor in what makes a shot "great." That's partly why I have Efren's Z-shot at the top of the list. It was also quite a "match moment," surrounded by lots of drama, as documented here:
