Top female players versus top male players?

I came up to a video on Youtube where there is a person who said that Earl could give Allison the 6 ball when they gamble. So, I just wonder if there is any match up between top male and top female players in money matches?

I think the truth is the women don't match up with the men much because 1) they'd get robbed, and they are smart enough to realize that (unlike a man would be, he'd just get robbed) 2) they would need a lot of weight to win. I just think that is true RIGHT NOW.

Give them a little time, a LOT more guys have been playing pool for a lot longer of a time frame. Women may be robbing top men at some point soon.

I think when Allison played her very best, she was getting fairly close. What would have gotten her was first the break and then power shots.

Maybe if she had Balukas' break?

whitey doesn't know who hit it

I heard Joyner gave Allison the 7 and won a few thousand.
But like Nichlaus predicted a Tiger i'm predicting a woman will
appear who holds the cue long like Buddy Hall or slips like
Cornbread and fineses like Bata who can win the US open.
Holding the cue short inhibits their follow-through because
of their build.

...i know i don't have the stature of Nichlaus but i can give him
8-6 at 1-hole....

no dude what would have gotten her is her lack of bawls. Women like to play safe too much, they lack the killer instinct that the men possess.

I know Corr was SMOKED in 8 ball on the IPT 11-3 by a man thats no one compared to the top players.

The only game i find that the women could really compete in against the men is straight pool. Tho it really makes no sense as i find women pick up the game alot faster than guys (maybe they just listen better) and the finesse and such should be beneficial to a woman and her "touch"....men are apes lol but i guess they win b/c they just beat on you.

Regardless i wish you would have left this thread untill i got home from offshore so i could have had a beer while reading this thread....its probably gonna get hot in here ROFLMAO.

I didn't say Allison could compete, but she would get the closest.

Balukas had a decent finish against the men one time, right?

I'll take Nicklaus' side on this one. First off, he would be really po'd at you butchering his name. Secondly, golf only has one hole so he would be very used to it.

In fact, he is the greatest one hole player of all time!:):)

yes...heres and article for ya. But don't think that her beating Mcready 11-3 means anything....anyone can win one set...just like allison could beat effren or earl in one set...its a given. But yes Jean was and still is the best woman player that there ever was. Allison is next, and we have only begun to see what Jasmin can do.

1980, Balukas again competed in the Men's division, in the World Open Pocket Billiards championship hosted at New York City's Roosevelt Hotel. She was defeated in the second round at the hands of Steve Mizerak with a score of 150–93.[42] Her final standing in the tournament overall was 22nd, with 42 men trailing her in the rankings.[43] She also competed in the women's division of that tournament and was the victor, defeating Billie Billings, also of Brooklyn, with a score of 100–75. According to The New York Times, "Miss Balukas's triumph...was not only expected but routine. She was a defending champion and, in fact, has lost only two games to women in the past eight years."[44]
Balukas was initially entered in both the men's and women's divisions of the 1987 B.C. Classic, a nine-ball competition. After notable controversy (detailed below), she competed only on the men's side. Along the way she trounced Keith McCready 11–3 (at the time the 17th-ranked male player by money list, and who guest-starred as obnoxious hustler "Grady Seasons" in the 1986 film The Color of Money). Balukas finished in a tie for 9th place among many of the best players in the world

I hate misspelling a man's name but i like your response so much
i'm not going to edit it

Thanks!

I hate to get off track here, but you think she was better than Allison? I think Allison plays the game better, but power might be enough to equalize it for Balukas. It would be great to watch.

What was the controversy between her and the women? I always heard the other women just wanted rid of here any way they could.

Jean was a great straight pool player, thats why i would put her over allison along with her power. They tried to get Jean to come out of retirement for the IPT but she did not want.

but here is the wiki on Jean

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Balukas

i believe the issues with the women was due to some dress code mumbo jumbo.

Coming close to winning in a game of pool is like coming in second in a gun fight.
Women cannot compete equally with men in most endeavors because strength, speed, and coordination favor men and I am not meaning to be sexist when I say this.
Boy, am I going to catch hell for this one.

Some women are open to action - the people who play money games know who they are, who the backers are and what the games are that can be made. Some men have been challenged by some women and refused to play.

Mass makes Class. More men playing means more top men. Any top woman can win any given set from any top man. More top men however make it extremely hard for any top woman to get through a field of them. Same thing applies to any top man trying to win any major event having to fight through a tough field.

The odds of the best woman player also being the best player period is very high. More likely the best women are middle of the pack among the best men. That's just a matter of statistics.

The women have several things against them, attitude towards them, experience, and numbers. As those things change we will see more top women who can legimately be regarded as equal to the top men in all aspects of the game.

on any giving nite a woman player may beat a male player from time to timebut if they would play a marathon or ten times she may win a few.the womens game is different game.the wpmen play safe way to much and they dont break as well.in 1995 at the houston open reed peirce gave the #1 ranked women player in the world at that time which was vivian vivireal the wild 6 and the last four and completly robbed her.she yelled and screamed she was robbed.she lost 1500 in 45 minuets.and i agree straight pool would be a little better out come cause the game isalittle slower and isnt a power game.what do you really think wouls happen if any of the top women would play alex p or francisco or efren or shane any game for any amount of money?the men would go to jail for robbing them

2010 is a long way from 1995. Shane and Alex and so on have way more experience in the heat of battle with other top players. They are also the best among the top male players. You can substitute a lot of male names for Karen and Allison and Kelly etc....who Alex and Shane would "rob" as well.

The women's game has come a long way in the past 15 years and they are not pushovers now.

They are however still at a statistical disadvantage simply because there are more men, like a hundred times more men playing than women. So that means that there are a lot more championship caliber men than women.

If I had the money and time I'd take Kelly Fisher on the road and match up all across the USA with one stipulation. Whatever session we played on the first trip across the states would have to be played again on the return trip. I guarantee that Kelly will learn how to win against the guys on the first trip and take down her fair share of wins on the return trip.

The women don't have the seasoning. If they did then it would look different.

Kelly has a backer though and those who want to gamble with her know who that is and can make a game.

I completely agree John, the women can't beat the men if they just play like they do against each other....the men just play very differient. You can never beat anyone in anything in life if you don't compete against them, through varied competition you progress especially on the mental level. If the women competed against the men every day they might not over take the men but things would be drastically different in my opinion. I for one would love to see the sexes combined in more tournaments just like they tried to do with the IPT....its good for the sport and would catapult the womens games to a new level.
