I am not all that great in using computers and the internet. But I have an awful fear of scheduling and promoting an event that conflicts with existing dates.

Does anyone know of a 'clearing house' for dates?

I am starting to contact casinos and such for getting some events going in the new pro events i am going to do. And if someone could give me a place to look, it could make my life a whole lot easier - and better for the pool players.

Much thanks in advance. I just think it is better to try and work with the existing tournament schedules than to 'go over the top of them'.

consider shcheduling events during long weekends which makes convenient for some spectators who are employed.
consider atleast one event in one of the casinos in Biloxi/Gulfport, MS.

Mark,

That is a great question and one I'm interested in finding the answer to. AZ is the first place I usually check. In your case perhaps the UPA website aswell, upatour.com

IMO you should schedule your events well enough in advance so that if there is a conflict it was someone else going over the top of you and not vice versa. Thats been my mindset in our local area and it has worked out pretty well.

Good Luck,

Chris

I posted a response in another thread that I hope you see. I don't know how to give you the link or I would. I would like to see you work with the existing regional tours and add to their work. They already have a base of players and would be a big asset to you.

This is what I have found so far:

1. Valley Forge Bar Box Championships - June 6-8, 2008

2. The $1,000,000 9-Ball Shoot-out, August 6-10-2008, Valley Forge Convention Center, PA

3. Turning Stone Classic XI - $25,000 ADDED - Verona, NY - August 14-17, 2008

4. US Open Championship - Cheasapeake Virginia, Pro Event. 33rd Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships are October 19 - October 25, 2008. c

Mark ... There is no clearing house for dates. You have to gather the tournament schedules from the different associations (UPA, BCA, VNEA, APA) and from the relevant area tour schedules that might conflict with your schedule. (note: from international tours too if relevant)

I would suggest if this is to be a permanent type function for the future to invest in a tournament scheduling program that will track all dates, and prevent a conflict for your tournaments. A program like 'Tournament Scheduler Pro' would be a good option. 30 day free trial, 99.95 to buy.
Programs like this can also publish your schedule onto a website on the Internet.

To do what you want to do takes a lot of 'behind the scenes' type computer work to make it work properly. I am a IT professional, and I know how much work is involved, time consuming work, BTW.

Here is one search result that appears to address the kinds off things you are looking for.

I searched Google for "Pool Tournaments" (include quotes and read about 25 pages.

http://www.billiardsdigest.com/new_calendar/ This appears to be the most comprehensive list I found for the USA.

http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Bleachers/8124/uspeis.html This is a comprhensive service for pool players.

http://www.insidepoolmag.com/option,com_events/Itemid,735.html Nice events calendar by month

http://www.blackball.org.uk/tournaments.html United Kingdom and US events, a different view.

http://9ballpool.co.uk/tournaments Another UK perspective for 9-Ball. If you contact some of thes places they can probably provide a more comprehensive list.

Next I would go to each association's home page as noted above.
That should get you started.

Let see, you now owe me $10.00 in Vcash. Perhaps that will get some of the other computer types on AZB to help out. In case you did not know with $10.00 Vcash I can buy a virtual beer.:D

Mark, the Viking Tour maintains the most comprehensive list of scheduled events along with physical mailing, email address' and/or players phone numbers for US and overseas players. Our database is the largest in the industry.

Please keep this in mind hen we talk at the Expo so we can go over the services the ATS and the Viking Tour offers to the billiard industry.

I second this idea. The Beau Rivage flys me in at least once every few months.

This might be an ENORMOUS feat, but what we did in the Northeast when we scheduled events was cross check them with the other tours and found out when the MAJOR events for those tours were being held so as not to hurt our fellow tours. We've worked with all the Open tourneys in our area so as not to compete against one another as that wouldn't help the players. You won't be able to miss all tourneys being held, but the major ones for the regionals should try to be avoided.

Kudos to you for considering this.

Mark,
You will find that most of the big events and pretty much all of the regional events are listed on AZBilliards in the calendar section. The majority of the regional tours provide their schedules per season, the independent events send via email (or are located in the forums then added), and the big events are forwarded in advance.

Mix 'um up with some silver plated ones too...:D They also look sooooo cool..;)

Why not create a google calendar with this information in it.

Call up the tours. Have them create their own google calendars. Put together one giant view of all the public calendars. Then they can all use the calendars to avoid or compete as they see fit. Plus one place with all the dates would get players to events that might not find out about them otherwise.

Heck, then encourage room owners to put in their weekly tournaments.

Seriously. The technology exists. Everyone (promoters, room owners, players, spectators) would find it useful. Lead the charge.
