Tournament question

To those of you who have ran small tournament before, do you play in them? To those of you who play in them do you mind if the TD plays?

This is a small tourney played on 4 bar boxes. A field of 20 players or less. I have done it before and it wasn't a problem but I wondered what others thought about it.
I am running the tournaments because no one else in my town will and I want to help my local pool hall out and have some fun while doing it. But if I think it will become a issue I will sit out and just run it.

What are your thoughts about it?

tourneys

I have run tournaments for many years and played in must of them.
As long as you run it right there should no be a problem, the more players the better it gets (prize fund):smile:

I don't see a problem with it. If anything it's probably going to hurt the TD because he is going to be constantly distracted. It's gets more money in the pot, so go for it.

Yeah it can make it a little hard for me to concentrate but thankfully the people I play usually are understanding about me having to answer any questions during our match.

I ran one for a couple of years because no one else would. Never had an issue except what people have noted above, it can affect your concentration. That is the reason that I don't anymore. As long as it is run fairly you shouldn't have an issue. Unless you are winning too much.

It depends on the size of the tournament. Also depends on the skill level of the players. If the field is a weaker field I would never play in it. If its a Open event with all sorts of skill levels then sure as long as you can focus on both.

Chris...The only problem will be if you start winning them all! LOL

I began organizing bar table tournaments in 1965, because no one else was doing it, and I wanted to play in them.

Ideally, I don't think the TD should play in his own event, though I agree with the reasons mentioned on this thread. Back in the late '80s, I ran weekly tourneys. One season I won 19 of 31 events, and did get a few complaints.

If I were running tourneys today, I would not play in them, without asking the other entrants first. Sometimes they'll actually ask the TD to play if it makes the number of entrants a multiple of eight, to prevent byes.
