Can I use snooker to improve my pool game? If so, how should I spend time on the snooker table?

i used to play snooker a lot, and I don't think it helps your pool game that much. the game is totally different and the equipment is very different as well. i think the only things where it might help is that it may help your shotmaking. and it may expose some flaws in your stroke, so it could straighten that up as well. but i think if you want to get better at pool, play more pool, not snooker.

I agree and disagree (ha there!) I think playing any cue sport will help all the others. So playing snooker will help your pool game, and playing carem would help your snooker etc etc. Just touching a cue once a day keeps your muscle memory and helps your skill level.
Nothing beats regular practise, even if it's half an hour a day. Snooker is absolutely harsh on pointing out flaws in your technique and playing snooker until our your mechanics are correct is a definite plus. It also helps you become a better tactician. It's not just shot making, but thinking ahead and improving your safety game.

Anyway, to answer your question directly. Put a red ball on the blue spot, the cue ball on the baulk line (outside the "D") and line it up straight. Now make the red. Got it so far? Alright, now draw the cue ball back across the baulk line. If you get to within a foot of making the shot, you're doing pretty well! Obviously in order to make the shot and draw the cue ball back, your mechanics have to be dead on.

What do you think of playing 8 ball with pool balls on your table?? I can bring some brunswick centenials.:D

Playing pool (with the larger balls) on the snooker table will help both your pool game and your snooker game (at least it has helped me in both areas). Smaller targets and longer distances seem to be the most beneficial aspects. Just be aware that you will need to spend a little time adjusting to the angles when moving back and forth between different sized tables.

No way dude, I'm not even playing golf or cricket on my table! Snooker is enough fun, without playing some mickey mouse game!
Besides playing with pool ball on a snooker table ruins the felt and the rails. Whenever they hit the rail they deflect down into the felt and bounce, making dimples....

Will playing the snooker table help my mechanical bridge technique? I don't drill the mechanical bridge enough.

snooker and pool

1. snooker will definatly help your pool stroke.
2. snooker will help your shot making
3. you will lose touch with left and right english going back to pool
4. regular pool balls will ruin a snooker tables pockets
5. the biggest transformation is getting a feel for a larger pool ball and reactions of english, but you will find dead center cue ball more efficiently when you go back to pool.

There are definitely more opportunities to use the mechanical bridge on the snooker table. I usually shoot one handed instead, but when shape is critical or it's too awkward to shoot with one hand, I'll use the rest. To each his own.

I apologize for suggesting a mickey mouse game. I was under the impression that pool games were generally regarded as worth playing by millions of people all over the world. My bad. I enjoy playing snooker very much, but very few people in my area know how to play snooker, much less having the ability to play it well, so I end up competing at pool games much more frequently than snooker. There are no snooker leagues and damn few snooker tables. My snooker table has rails that are slightly higher than the rails on my pool table with the same profile (except near the pockets). I have noticed no ill effects to the cloth (Simonis 760) nor to the pockets. It is an antique snooker table that is the same or very similar to all of the snooker tables in my area. It does not have napped cloth and does have regular drop pockets without the extensions in the bottom of the pockets. If the snooker table you are planning on playing on is a regulation table such as those used in international competition, then my opinion probably doesn't carry much weight. If it is like nearly every snooker table that I have ever seen in the US, doesn't belong to you, and the owner doesn't care if you play with the larger balls on it, then I don't see what you have to lose spending the time to see how it works for you.
I was merely relating my experience. Your experience (as well as others) may be different.

i don't think it will help your pool game at all really. It's completely different.

If you want to improve your pool game practice pool and to drills on the pool game. If you want to improve your stroke, do stroke drills on the pool table.

If on the other hand you want to get better at snooker, play snooker. :)

Play pool on any snooker table but mine!

Pool is much more forgiving of poor technique (the ball will go in) If you have a good coach than it shouldn't matter, but you'll notice on a snooker table when something is off long before you do on a pool table. The sooner you correct it, the better you're off in the long run.
