These days, few people can afford to drive these motorhomes with gas being so high and many of these vehicles are sitting up in their driveways or parked in private parking lots.

If you have one that is collecting dust and you want to get rid of it, how about contacting : genomachino

That is Gene Albrecht's screen name on AZ billiards and you can send him a PM (private message).

Maybe you know someone who has a Class C Motorhome and you can ask if they are interested in selling theirs.

Thanks for passing the word or calling Gene.

Is that an old MCA? I can't see the logo. I think it is because you can't mistake the
shape.

At one time, MCA was the bus and then they started making Prevost.

I have driven both and I can tells ya, there is nothing like an old MCA. 4 speed (believe it or not) and by the time you hit 4th, you're motoring.

Hounds at one time were all MCA. Don't know if they have started using Prevosts' or not.

Re do the motor and do the inside and ya gots a Class A Travelin Home on wheels.

At one point when diesel was considerably cheaper, it was the way to go.

Back in the day, even when diesel was cheap, it used to cost $400 for a fill. Now its prolly closer to double that or more. When I saw the total, I was always thinking, glad this isn't coming out of my pocket.

I'd put the boat behind that one and get lost for most weekends in the summer.

Its a 1940 Greyhound! Silverside....Old Cummings 671.....slow as a turtle, but that engine, with good maintenance, will take you o'..... a million miles before it needs a major. 4 speed! Polish the sides, repaint it same color, re-do insides, classic ride......! This one could be had for 10k, rebuilt engine has 35k!
Has a new gens-et. AC units.....Full head and shower....I would expect to dump 20k into it right away. So this bus @ 30K, looking and running as new...no problem with those numbers. Just got to be okay cruising at 55 all over the US!!!! What a rare classic.......Look at those retro lines....All sides polished, new paint, all the bumpers re-chromed, and new light weight interior, save about 1000 lbs. Would be a bus people took photos of going, down the road!

I have never really needed to research it, but i bet there is ways to save on that fuel, gas clubs etc etc.....I think you could save about half the going rate if you join up with one. I know truckers were paying like 1.50 per or so, with the fuel clubs. years ago...not sure anymore.

Yea, it has tempted me for a few years. No clue on the chassis condition etc etc...But the shell is alum. so it can be de-dented (if that's a word) and polished enough to comb your hair in it!

Paint it yellow and white/ slap a huge 9 ball on it, and they wont see ya coming! (Tongue in cheek)

I would check e-bay. I know when it comes to most anything, you can't beat e-bay on prices. I would think a small 18 to 24ft with a small Cummings diesel would be ideal, and some will get close to 20 mpg on the hwy. I'm sure Gene already knows the difference in prices when it comes to diesel and gas burners.

Since I am in the single digits for retirement, I figured I would check on a mobile retirement instead of 2 homes and doing the winter/summer thing. The guy lives @ 10 mi away from me, dunno how he is related to Albany RV. I think he preps them for alb. RV. Anyway, some of these go for 150K new and they get traded in so they a few yrs old and sell for 80-90K. They get about 5 mpg.

I would think a mini or a slide-in for a diesel p/u would be better.They get @ 10-12 mpg.
Here's the link for the behemouth. (they are niiiiiice!)

None of the above posted are Class C.

You can find a used RV around $15-20,000 if you aren't too picky and don't mind doing some repairs. RV's are worse than a gambling problem and definitely worse than a boat.

I was gonna buy one of those once. But when you factor in the cost of repairs, insurance, extra gas, hook ups, it starts getting expensive. And then, where are you gonna park that beast? Even without a hook up, it would be cheaper to drive a small car and stay at a super 8.

Actually it is not. I had a bus conversion for about 15 years and I could travel pretty cheap. It can cost quite a bit if you are covering long distances in short times. If you are just rambling though it is very cheap. I would often drive just a few hundred miles and stay there for a week or more.

You eliminate hotels and restaurants because you shop at supermarkets and do your own cooking. I never stayed in RV parks we would just find places to park and rarely were bothered. You also learn many trick of traveling that save you even more money. I carried a scooter if I needed to just run around a short distance and didn't want to drive the bus. Most of the daily living costs were the same as if we were home.

The only real extra cost is fuel and that is just the difference between what a car would cost as compared to the bus. I carried cues that I bought wholesale that I would sell in bars as well as do cue repairs. I could have never done any of that in a car. Even at tournaments when I would play I had a place to go and relax and get a little sleep or make a snack and so on.
It is how you are going to use it and if it suits your needs that determines if it is a good deal or not. If there are like 4 or 5 of you traveling forget about it, it's the nuts. For me it gave traveling in a car like the 5 ball.
The bus I had was a former airport bus. It was like a 3/4 size regular bus super well built. I built the inside myself, pretty neat I have to tell you. We went everywhere in that bus from Key West to Canada.

This is the size vehicle that I would be shooting for. I like the outer looks of a Mercedes Sprinter but haven't seen the inside of one, nor the price tag. Just saw one on the highway a few weeks ago and it looked very nice.

I see these around town all the time, they are popular work trucks.

I think one would make a great conversion. I don't think players really go on the road anymore but for a player wanting to do a little traveling and save on hotels and so on a small truck conversion works. A lot of guys ran around in vans years ago. I once went on the road by myself in VW Karmann Ghia. No kidding, I took out the passenger seat and put in a bed. The back seat folded down and I had my little kitchen there. All I had to do was stop at a RV park and take showers. I would pull in in like the middle of the night use the shower do my laundry and leave. With the tinted windows you had no Idea I was sleeping in there.

These was not a luxury trips, strictly to make money. I would go a few weeks at a time, and I did usually make money, sometimes a lot of money. I have to put it in perspective, this was at a time when a guy was raising a family on $5.00 an hour before taxes. I was scuffling bars and pool rooms often making a $500.00 in a week or more, more then twice what the average working man was making. Hustling was actually a good job in those days. Those days are long gone though. I think a guy would be lucky to break even on the road today, if someone didn't shoot him first. Times have really changed

That's what i'm talking about...Screw getting a new or used plastic rv, real money pits! You get a bus like that one above or the one i posted, and spend the money to get it 100% sorted. It would almost be like a act from God if it broke down and left you on the road. Those old engines will go 500-1 mill
the bodys are alum. not plastic. etc etc.....they were built to go a million. So when you spend the money to get them right, not much to worry about for a long time except reg. maintenance. The one i posted assuming the chassis is okay, would need 20k right off the bat. But for that 30k total, you have a rv that will circle the earth 10 times without a prob. Just wont do it over 55 :D

Newer style used RV's i would shy away big time! Around 40k i would be looking at a retired couples Airstream. Diesel motor-home prob a 34+ ft
But i like the vintage ones, with updated interior work myself.

The reason that bus reminds you of the Brunswick cent. table, is that retro look. That bus i posted is an 1939 not a 1940.
One of 90 ever made in 1939.....

Nice bus you got! :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Expenses prohibit regular traveling for most pool players but technology really put the kibosh on hustling.

I remember how popular the VW vans were in the 60's. "Don't come a'knockin if you see the van a'rockin."
