Travelling (by Plane) with Cues? Do/Must you check in?

I know someone noted that this was not a good idea, but I always pack our cues in a soft case in my large suitcase when we go to Vegas and we carry on our empty cases. Never had an issue, I pack my clothes all around the case.....of course 99% of our flight were direct so no worry of luggage missing a connection....this year we change planes in Houston....so crossing my fingers.

i flew to London today From Los Angeles, I checked my cue, thank God it made it.

While I was in Security I saw a 5' long cane 1" in diameter pass through the X-Ray machine, i was pissed off beyond belief.

So while its probably illegal to do(like thats gonna stop me) I took a few pics of it. When I can get the pics out of my phone I'll send them to someone to post up here on AZB.

then i came up with a solution, if you can't beat them(TSA) join them, i'm going to manufacture a case for the butt only that looks like a cane, the butt will screw into the hollowed out cane so it don't rattle and will have a felt liner to protect scratches. the cue butt will be a part or attached fixture of the cane that will go unnoticed. How bout them apples?

I think the solution is to build a cain or cane that is felt lined and threaded so nothing rattles, screw in the butt inside a protective cover, and attach a threaded knob to the top. Effectively making the butt end of a cue part of the cane and check in the shafts. If someone could produce these it would be possible to bring out butts on a flight. It makse sense for expensive cues as it would not be cheap to build the "Cue Cane" TM patent pending Fatboy Manufacturing inc.

I'm going forwards with this project, i can't stand checking my cue, i fed-x it in the States and don't like that too much, for international travel its the nuts.

thats my new project, a cue condom made out of something that would hide the butt of a cue and protect it, while going un-noticed by the TSA(The Stupidest Americans).

i havent slept in 24 hours so forgive my rambling,

cheers from Germany,
Eric :)

From my observation, it was a common practice at this year's BCAPL Nationals.

As Feltmaster pointed out, the probable risk of lost/mislaid luggage is if you have a connecting flight.

My team is going to Vegas in August and I was thinking about a suitcase with all of our cases in it. What do you guys think? Good or bad idea?

As Eric stated you can bring your cane on, I have done it myself.....just to see if I could.....and there was no question. My son chose to get married in Arkansas and I picked up a souvineer cane from Turpentine Creek (Big Cat Refuge) that my Daughter in law's Family operates. Carried it on the plane no questions asked......

Cues on plane

Cant bring a cue on board because could be used as weapon but i see hockey sticks carried on sometimes. Maybe has to do with the swing radius?

I am thinking that they are more capable of being used to stab through someone easier.

I dont fly with cues that often but when I did I would Fed Ex them to where ever I was staying. I just rung up the hotel in advance and spoke with a manager about where from , what date and what time the package would be arriving. Plus you can insure it for as much as you need to to cover the cost (not the sentimental value) if busted up or lost :sorry:

I bought a rolling duffel and stuck both the cue and case inside.

I have done this with good results, but I'm leaning toward using a Cabela's takedown shotgun case that I bought for storage and for this purpose. It's FAA approved for guns, is lockable, double walled, and well padded. A custom interior would be an easy fabrication. It can hold several cues and accessories. I also think it a reasonable size to carry, although a soft 4x8 case may be able to be packed inside it if the interior is modified.

In fact I think adding a pistol to the mix may make it especially unlikely to be lost.

Thoughts?

So this is from the Canadian version of the TSA, but you can carry on; fishing poles, ice skates, lawn darts, Miniature sports equipment (such as souvenir hockey sticks), Skateboards, Sports racquets, Whips.

Seriously but no to pool cues what a crock and this is just from the sporting / camping equipment section

I stuff them in my pants and smile at the ladies. Never had a problem yet.

I tried that the last time and it was all fine and dandy until i sat down...lady next to me called the cops on me, still can't figure out what went wrong..:sorry:

@Jive,
Sounds like china has sensible rules about cues on board a plane.
I'm actually pretty glad for that, because i travel within China quite abit and this lax regulation allows me to bring my cues around to shoot with..i was actually surprise that Singapore would let me do the same.

Not a good idea buddy...all your eggs in one basket...
Like how many countries would never put all their top man in a single aircraft...just ain't worth the risk!

Hey Eric,

It's funny you should mention this. Quite a while back i was talking to Jim Baxter, and he was sharing a story with me about how one of his client liked the cue he build so much he wanted to convert it into a cane.

I think the conversion is pretty sweet, Jim shared some pictures with me and here it is.

I think it looks pretty cool and could be a good base for your project!
Just buy one of those rubber/plastic caps for the joint, and make a curved cap for the butt. If you don't want to expose your cue just make a nice leather sleeve to sleeve the cue. It's real easy to make the sleeve just use Velcro tap and any leather smith can make one. A cheap and simple way to bring cue onboard.

The only problem i see is the Pin being exposed into the scan. If you're using Metal pin, the X-ray machine will detect the pointed end. So i think the best way is to use G10 pin!

I know i know...i'm taking this a wee bit too seriously

Ice Skates??? Seriously??? So their afraid someone might be poked to death by a cue as opposed to being sliced by skates??

PM me about the Whips...we needa talk..

so i guess Indiana Jones is good to go  The bigger question is LAWN DARTS why the f#ck would you need lawn darts for
