Just realized there is no mention here about the up coming tri-state open event this weekend. So far I have heard there will be some very strong players in the field. However, I know whose games I will be sweating on :p

Will I see some AZ'ers there?

(Music starts) Hey Jude, ....

(Music starts) Hey Jude, ....

...don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get (IT) :)

I'll be there! Not competing, just sweatin!! :)

It should be quite the showing! Tony Robles, Mika, Thorsten, Michael Tosado, Flaco and possibly even Ginky are some of the names I've heard will be competing.

FYI, there's a street fair on 4th Ave that day so parking may be tricky. Take public transportation or try parking on 3rd ave! :)

Jude you in? Steve?

Highlights from Saturday: Some tough draws from the start.

Second round Mika knocked Tony to b-side despite late run by Tony (9-7 or 9-6).

Tony went to b-side and eliminated Frankie H (didn’t note score as I was busy playing)

Ginky met Mika in final 8 bracket on a-side. Great match to watch. Ginky won 9-8 on a terrific 2 into the 9, 9 carom off of the 5 ball into corner pocket.

Tony was playing Jude as I packed it in for the night. Winner comes back this morning at 11:30 playing in the 9th-12th b-side bracket.

Danny Barouty is in the final 4 on a-side of bracket. Didn’t see any of his matches except for his 9-4 victory over me!

B-side resumes at 11:30am. A-side at 12:30pm

Jonathan smith also advancing on the winners side.

On a different note, there are really only about 5 or 6 players that have a chance at winning this thing. With that said, there Is
no excuse for robles to play mika, or Jonathan to play Frankie, in the first round. There were 43 players when this started. This event needs to be seeded.

Before this event to be seeded it needs better payoff. I hear its $1000 added to prize pool? For Tri state its too low. Perhaps thats why THorsten isnt playing in it.

respectfully disagree

The Tri-State tour has always prided themselves on having a fair, random drawing. There is no "fixing" of the brackets to set up the "best" final. All the players know this coming in and they accept it.

The Blaze tour used to have this reputation until Frankie H. caught them "fixing" a first-round match about 2 years ago. What happened to Frankie when he pointed it out?...He got thrown off the Blaze tour!

I do realize there is a time and a place for seeding, especially when there is a final on TV, but the tri-state tour should not be forced to change their system for one tournament.

The match of the day was Mika Immonen vs George "Ginky" SanSouci and here is the position (my best guess at it) that decided the match in Ginky's favor. I don't think there are many that could or would have come up with this gem!

Tony beat me 9-3. Sigh. There were some tough layouts that afforded me a few opportunities yet unfortunately, Tony played like Tony and I played a little too amped.

Ginky is still on winner's side. Tony and Mika are still surviving. This kid named Ali from Dubai who is here on vacation looked very sharp. 17 years old and he looks like a soon-to-be champion. He plays Mika right now.

I had the good fortune to play Tony on day two of this tournament (11:30 this morning). Tony whooped me 9-2, leaving me feeling pretty good with the 9th-12th finish. Tony was playing Mika as I headed out for my Holiday BBQ.

I’d like to point out what a Class-A player and person Tony is. I am a B+ on the Tri-State Tour and Tony treated me with the same respect he shows for his fellow Pro’s. Kudos’s Tony!! I hope he got through the b-side to win the tournament. A class A-player and a class A-person!

If anyone knows the results of today please let me know. Guy.

Just got back from Amsterdam. When I arrived, the tournament was down to six players. In losers side action, George "Ginky" SanSouci topped Jesse Rice and Tony Robles beat Jonathan Smith to set up a showdown of the two most successful players in the history of the Tri State tour. On the winners side, Shin Park eked out a win over Dan Barouty by snapping the nine at double hill, thereby earning the hot seat. After Tony Robles eked out a double hill win over Ginky, he topped Barouty by 9-4. So, here's the deal:

5th/6th Jonathan Smith, Jesse Rice
4th George "Ginky" SanSouci
3rd Dan Barouty

Tony Robles will need to beat Shin Park twice (racing to nine) to win the title. I left just before the final began.

Can someone explain the beef Tony and Ginky were having. These are two really nice guys and it was strange to see them upset.

I learned today that Shin Park won the first set of the final to snap off the title undefeated.

I never saw Shin Park before but this Korean cueist played simple basic good pool. Never getting rattled and the drive and determination to win. Nothing eye popping or jaw dropping. Just simple pool never missing an easy shot or not afraid to run a difficult out the proper way. He had all the tools. A great example of good technique and attitude.

Besides his game Shin Park is a gentlemen, never runs his mouth win or lose.He has closed a few big mouths and carries himself with class.
On a different note : The carom shot that Ginky took.. (great shot)Very low PC shot.... he had other choices to win the game. he makes the shot he is a hero,,he misses and sells out he is a zero..the crowd is saying why did he take shot? I think a poor choice but either way he made the shot.

On the contrary, it was a very interesting shot to take. The rack was tied up. I specifically recall labeling it as unrunnable. He has a legitimate shot at winning right then and there along with several other positive things that could happen. There were three balls in action there and all were going to head toward pockets. I was discussing the shot with Tony while it happened and we agreed it was definitely worthy of taking.

You simply cannot let Mika back to the table if you can help it. You need to either run out or lock him up good. You can't perform a lukewarm safety there and there was nothing that was going to put him in jail..
